If you're looking to protect your privacy on the internet, you've probably heard of Peer Guardian. It blocks incoming and outgoing connections by filtering them through lists of known "bad" IPs.
The problem is that Peer Guardian isn't really being worked on anymore, has a lot of bugs, and its default blacklists aren't very well maintained (which sort of defeats the point).
Peerblock is essentially the follow up to Peer Guardian. In fact, it looks and behaves exactly the same and will even import your Peer Guardian settings when you install it.
They key difference is that Peerblock has full Vista/Windows 7/64-bit support and uses different blacklists which (so far) seem to be faster and better-maintained.
And it's free of course.

Peerguardian was always preventing me from using Steam and torrenting Linux distros, how's this one?
This program sounds like something an overprotective parent would put onto their child's computer.
These sorts of programs don't work well at all.
I don't really see the point, IPs can change and then it's useless. Though it's good for the :tinfoil: people.

And then the blacklist will be updated once the new IP is found.
IT seems like this program is regularly maintained.

It'll still do it. It has both Valve and Limelight networks (the content servers for Valve) blocked, and it's difficult to unblock both.
Yes, peerguardian is no longer being worked on so should download peerblock instead.

Well, you aren't supposed to have steam running while downloading linux distros. Also, i'm guessing you have set it to block http's as well.
this shit doesnt work ok get it through your thick fucking skulls

What, no it's not
Download and add an unblock list which has all of Valve's ranges and ports

Huh? Why would I close steam just because I'm torrenting? Steam is used for friends, and torrenting at 90% speed doesn't change my game performance significantly since it has that 10% of bandwith left.
this shit doesnt work ok get it through your thick fucking skulls
It does, actually.
It won't stop you getting caught. It just lessens the chances by blocking all known Anti-Piracy and Official IP's.
Having it is better than not having it, you'd be surprised what weird institutions try and connect to you when you are torrenting. "China Education and Research Network" for example.
I think my Peerguardian list claims nearly 1 Billion IP Addresses =/

It does work. Turn it on and then try to log into steam - it won't be able to connect.

Its not that at all, its a wonderful program that keeps anti-p2p and government agencies from ganing access to your personal info. has nothing to do with over protective parents, it has to do with protecting your self from other computers looking at you.

Ever thought that maybe someone there is one of the peers/leachers? A lot of universities provide connections to their students. For example, for my connection it should say "University of Jyvaskyla network".
