Mention firefly, get all the hype
If he had done this with Minecraft it would've never been released.
Haha, I love how people shit on Notch for doing this, but Carmack and friends got endless praise. http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1258676

Point is they've made fully complete and good games in the past. Notch has not.
Which only proves even further that Notch has no idea wtf he's doing. Take a Game Design course or something, geez man!

Just because Facepunch is a bunch of dorks that can't have fun doesn't mean Notch didn't create a decent game.

Minecraft was supposed to be a first person dwarf fortress. Now look at it. The combat is still shit, the health system is a mess, bosses are horrible, loot is pointless, the alchemy system is just a huge test of patience, and now the next big exciting update is horses.

I feel sorry for Notch. Anything he does now is going to be shit on after the success of Minecraft. Everyone is expecting the next thing he makes to be better than Minecraft.. and that's very very high expectations. So he just needs to work on something he enjoys making and release it without expecting to make the money back.

http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1258676
The majority of FP saw Notch as this lovable guy who wore neat hats andmaybe took vacations more often than he should have but was making something really cool. Then he started putting stuff into the game that they didn't feel was necessary ('ugh enchanting totally ruins my experience even though there's no obligation for me to use it') and maybe started adhering to a release schedule that the majority of FP Minecraft players disagreed with and suddenly he's the devil and everything he makes isn't worth sniffing at

Making a massive hit defines your image forever.
0x10c looks really good though, imo
It's nerdy though, it won't ever have the universal appeal of Minecraft

From what I can see he maybe lost steam or lost interest towards the end of his time working on Minecraft? If that's the case, that's totally okay! Some people are really good at coming up with ideas and laying down the groundwork, but not very good at developing that idea further. Likewise, some people aren't very good at creating the initial idea, but if they get given a product and asked to improve it, they can do a really good job. The attitude to have is one of fostering these individual talents and letting somebody do what they're good at, instead of forcing somebody to 'stick with it' throughout.
Did you seriously just compare Carmack to notch? I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Why What's wrong with comparing two people? I can compare a state official that I dislike to Hitler; it doesn't mean I'm saying 'this person is identical to Hitler in every way'. I'm saying 'there are similarities here and Hitler is a good example to use because he's a globally known figure' You should learn how comparisons work or you're going to have a hard time listening to any discussion that has even the whisper of an allusion EDIT: Sorry I just re-read that and it sounded needlessly harsh! I didn't mean it to; I know you weren't being a dick or anything ♥
minecraft is so much better playing with feed the beast. I really hope they hurry up with the official mod API, it's long overdue.
Here's the thing guys. If literally anybody, any studio, any developer but Notch had said "it's not coming out until it's fun" you would be heaping praise onto them. You guys just really hate Notch.

I mean the 4th post is someone wondering why everyone is giving notch shit yet no one is?

I mean the 4th post is someone wondering why everyone is giving notch shit yet no one is?
And then most of the page is mindlessly bashing Notch. My point isn't the person, it's the principle of thing. Other people get a free pass, and regardless of whether or not Notch is doing something good or bad, he gets the same reaction. Yes, the loss of Minecraft's potential is a huge shame. But HERP DERP TIME FOR VACATION every time you go into a thread related to him is just tedious. People aren't waiting to see if 10c is any good, they're just blindly bashing him. If the game turns out to be crap, then I have no complaints, but doing it for the sake of doing it is kind of dumb.
I really don't like how much hate Mojang, Notch and Minecraft are getting. There have been a lot of bad design decisions made in Minecrafts development, but it's still incredibly fun (especially with mods like the ones in the FTB packs) and the company is very relaxed, open and the complete opposite of EA and Activision. They don't care a lot about monetization, they release tons of free updates. If an update is bad or comes out too slow it's not because they hate their customer base or don't think that it will make them more money, it's because they can't do better. They are still doing their best. And if you want to play Minecraft how it would have been with more consistent gameplay design play Better With Wolves, the author may be a huge dick sometimes, but he knows his shit.
Notch has made a game that millions of people have enjoyed. Just because Facepunch is a bunch of dorks that can't have fun doesn't mean Notch didn't create a decent game.
I played many hours of Minecraft and enjoyed it. But seeing how games of a similar genre that were released long after minecraft (Terraria, Don't Starve) made by few people had more content and are more polished in shorter time than a game 4 years in development in a studio with 20-something developers and millions of moneys? Come on. I think there's two reasons: 1. Java 2. No specific plan of development. So they just add random stuff that come to Notch's/Jeb's mind from time to time resulting in a game that feels like a compilation of mods. It's forgettable, of course. Minecraft is a first game of it's genre. And when a genre is born, there's no set rules and success recipes yet. People make mistakes. Yes, I know, infiniminer etc, but there were 3D free roam car stealing games before GTA III too. My point is, I'm glad that in the future, someone will make a block-building-survival game that has a good engine and a full, solid development plan to follow.
IMO I think he should go back to working on minecraft, there's still a lot of potential there to build on.
