Those are some very thin threads (lines? Whats the saying again) they're pulling in this article. Other then the second last point, that was intentional. [editline]21st December 2016[/editline] Though I think their last point on the list might be an intentional nod.
Most of these seem like a very big stretch. 1. They look kinda similar, so what? They had very generic clothing. The other claimed 'links' to Katarn/Jan are ambiguous; the characters in Rogue One aren't "fringe operatives who work with a single partner, travelling the galaxy undertaking independent missions in a compact starship." 2. Death Troopers sound mechanical and are in black armour...doesn't mean they have anything to do with Dark Troopers. How about the actual video-game link they have, where their name is a reference to the Star Wars Galaxies Death Troopers and that is even mentioned in their canon description? 3. It's not the actual ship type, it's a new ship based on the now non-canon Old Republic version, and it's appeared in Star Wars: Rebels before this.

The Jan/Jyn Ors/Urso reference might be a thing, considering both Rogue One and Dark Forces have the same basic premise. The original pitch may just have been that Kyle and Jan steal the Death Star plans. Maybe they kept the names the same in early drafts of the script, then made up new ones as things changed over time. Jan shifts to the central role, the characters get fleshed out and so forth. Seems almost straightforward enough to be plausible.
