• Blue screen on new build

Hey guys, just assembled my first build and I'm pretty sure all the components are good(not DOA) but I get a blue screen. At the bottom it says STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005,*0XB138756,*0XB84C342C,*0XB84C3128) I reused my old hard drive(which has plenty of space. I ruled that out...) and graphics card. What do I do? Go into safe mode and uninstall the old motherboard drivers? Os from old computer(still on Hard drive I believe) is windows xp 32-bit. I still have all the CDs from my original computer. Thankyou! Hopefully we can get this running.
Hey, I hope this helps. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330182
did you reinstall or just plug in and try to boot in as normal also XP? on a new build? stop living in the past
Hey thanks. I think I have to uninstall the old motherboard drivers(maybe more stuff? RAM?). How would I do that in safe mode? Thanks. I would like all the suggestions I can get. [editline]05:36AM[/editline] Yep I did. I'm getting windows 7 after I work this out. And I know the os I have sucks... Reinstall what? Thanks
You should be able to find your old motherboard drivers in the Add/Remove Programs section of the control panel. However, I would reccommend against sticking with your XP install. Whenever you replace parts (especially your motherboard) it's always best to reformat so you can start off with a clean slate and also not run into problems like this. Not to mention you should consider upgrading to Windows 7.
Yeah, in the newer editions of Wndows like Vista and 7, it will not face problems like this. Specially since I did this last week on 7 and no problems at all.
Reinstall what?
XP just transplanting an OS from one system to another doesn't really work well and can cause all sorts of problems the easiest way to solve this would be to go with a fresh install
You mean new hard drive? So if I installed 7 next bootup it would probably work? I'm going to try uninstalling the old drivers, then re-installing xp, and if that doesn't work w7, and after that, new hard drive. Thanks.

The old motherboard drivers? Alright. I'll find it tomorrow. I should have gotten a new hard drive. Can you guys suggest a cheap one? (<$50 possibly? I've only used like half of my current 250Gb one). Thanks
....You don't need a new hard drive, just reinstall XP and tada.
Seriously? Can it be a different key? I Might not be able to find the original os. If I recall correctly Dell put it on a cd that says operating system but my brothers computer came with an extra copy. Should I use that extra copy? What if re-installing the os doesn't work? It probably will but I'm just wondering...
If you love XP that so, You can use 7's XP mode system, Thats loads up an VM of XP. 7 Is the best thing to happen to windows.

I'm doing it today. I'll tell you guys how it goes. Thanks for the help. My build went a lot smoother because of you guys... Edit: can the os be a different key? I may not be able to find the one Dell gave me...
Yes
I got it to work but I think it erased my hard drive. Is there any way to check? If it did, how can I wipe it completely clean? Thanks
Well how exactly do you "think" you erased it.
Ok. I don't think it's cleared because I did a file search and it searched folders that I created. I just can't get to it...where should I look? Thanks [editline]12:16AM[/editline] Definitely didn't wipe it clean. I just need to make it so it is the default storage for my account... Also when turned on my computer is asked which os it wants to use. Hoe do I make one my default? Thanks
Should be an option in your BIOS
When I start (motherboard screen opens) I have a choice to go to setup or post bios. Post bios doesn't seem to have anything useful in it but setup has all the hardware stuff, ect. Setup says "bios setup utility" on the top of it. All my documents are there but it's like it us seperate. I want to use all the settings ect on it. Thanks
My harddrive is fine but it's not using the documents/settings/programs on it. How can I make my computer use them? Before you ask, it is the primary boot drive and it is the only hard drive in my computer. And how can I delete an operating system? I have two that I can choose from during boot-up. The two are both windows xp home edition but one works and the other crashes my computer. It's annoying to have to choose every time. Thanks for the help
If you are installing using 7, when it asks you which hard drive to install on you get some tools you can use to erase the entire drive. Reformatting from there should do the trick.
I don't want to erase my whole harddrive. I'd like to keep the things on it. All the programs are there but they aren't being used. Also I need to delete one of my os's but that will probably be fixed when I fix the hard drive... Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thankyou
