I'm looking to buy a gaming rig, but I don't exactly know what parts I should buy, And I'm more or less completely out of my league when it comes to hardware. -Budget is $1600, I would prefer to spend less -I would like to be able to play the newest games on the market, so mainly higher end parts -I want an HD monitor, with a resolution of at least 1920x1080 -I live in america, so I can get my parts from newegg -I'll probably be getting a copy of windows 7 -I'll be using this computer mainly for gaming/programming, with occasional 3d modelling/texture creation -I want to get an SSD for startup Help would really be appreciated, I have no idea what I'm doing here.
You need a OS? And do you do any heavy video editing or Photoshop?
Sorry, I forgot to add that info to the OP. I'll be getting a copy of windows 7, and I'll be doing occasional editing, but not enough to really warrant a change in the parts I'll be getting.
Ok, yeah you can probably save some money then going 2500k. I'm sure someone will come along with a build shortly, I would do one, but I'm about to head out the door.
Are you looking to get a SSD with it?
Are you looking to get a SSD with it?
I want to get one for startup, but I'm fine with having a regular HDD for the rest of the computer.
There is no reason to get superclocked cards as you can easily do it yourself.
Then he can get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130621 one
I have a question, because I know nothing about video cards; If I were to buy the "overclocked" video card, would it be the exact same as if I overclocked the regular video card? Would I be able to overclock the pre-overclocked video card again without consequence?
For the build above ^^^, if you are going to get that OCZ 4GB SSD, you should really consider getting more memory. 40GB is the absolute minimum for just hold the OS alone. Having more head room seems to be a idea since you have money to spare.

Do you ever want to upgrade to SLI? If so, a 850w PSU would be a good idea. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011 Cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139009

Thanks for all your help. How does this look?
CPU and MB combo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.674899 Windows 7 Home OEM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986 Are you really going to use 8gb of RAM?

[editline]1st August 2011[/editline] I'm wondering about 3d monitors, should I look into them? They're really cool, but then again they're extremely expensive.
Only thing I would change is probably the video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130684 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130593 Either will work great, just that HD one runs a bit hotter I believe. I have the 2nd one, and I idle at 35c. Also, EVGA is really good with rebates, so definitely cash in on that. And no, 3d monitors are really not worth it, if you want to save money.
3d monitors are pretty crap.
Okay, this is how my list rests now, I'm probably going to order later today. How does it look?
That cooler is worth it. This would perform just as well at half the price. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065 Also, do you plan to SLi? And there is a great shellshock deal if you get it today. Seems like a solid monitor. http://www.newegg.com/Special/ShellShocker.aspx?cm_sp=ShellShocker-_-24-005-235-_-08012011_3

It doesn't look like it has as good heat dispersal, and it has much less surface area. Also, I'm apparently a retard, because I have no idea what SLi is. [editline]1st August 2011[/editline] And how is that other monitor better than the first one? It's only 10 dollars less, so I wouldn't be saving much.
Yeah, more than likely it will perform the same. It is really a great cooler. And SLi means running 2 570s. Do you ever plan to? And that monitor is a inch bigger, but mainly its a great price, its really the same.
Probably not, but I might want to in the future. What would I have to change to be able to? [editline]1st August 2011[/editline] I just noticed (I'm retarded for not noticing it earlier) That I currently have a laptop, and I'll need to get a keyboard too. Any suggestions?
Well nothing if you ever plan to. But if not, you can downgrade to a 750watt to save some money. Any specific wants with the keyboard?
Preferrably a newer one, and if it wouldn't add a shitload to the pricetag, some hotkey-key's would be nice.
I recommend this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126087

Looks fine to me. Up to you if you want that CPU cooler. Enjoy your new rig! I'm jealous!
I really can't thank you enough for all your help. It actually took me THREE FUCKING YEARS of saving, but it was worth it!
