I'm considering upgrading and what not. Here's my current build:

ECS EliteGroup GeForce 6100PM-M2 V2.0
AMD Athlon X2 7750 2.71 GHZ Black Edition Dual Core Processor
XFX GeForce 9600 GSO Video Card - 768MB DDR2
Soundblaster (not sure what is extactly, had it since 2006)
2GB of RAM
WD 500 GB HDD
Windows XP SP3
*I can play Crysis on medium settings as well as GTA 4. All source games can be played at high settings at 1152 x 864, although I usually play at 1024x768. ( ihave a 10 year old CRT monitor). Now, I'll say this once, and only once. I'd rather stick with nVidia. I haven't had any problems with them. However, I'll will considered your suggestion, even if it's a ATI card. Nothing too expensive. (I.E no 400 video card or i7Cores) I'm trying to keep thid upgrade under 1,000$ - 1,200$ I want of keep my parts under 200$.
Wait so you want 1000$ computer and you want your parts to be at a maximum of 200$ each?
Lemme get my old i5 build
Wait so you want 1000$ computer and you want your parts to be at a maximum of 200$ each?
1,000-1,200. It's an upgrade, not a new build. Athlough, I will consider going to 1500.
Do you need an OS?
You could get an amazing i5 5870/50 build, if you just want an upgrade then you would be able to get like 5870/5970 i5 mobo and ram and a psu, but thats almost everything. The problem is is that most of that stuff is really out dated and if you want to get a 5870 and no new cpu then that cpu would hold you back
Why do you wan't to keep the part's under 200?
Yeh that confused me...
Why do you wan't to keep the part's under 200?
I was never keen on buying $400 video card. However if you can keep it under $1,500 or so I'll consider it. Anyway. I’ve never shopped for an ATI card, so I don’t know much about them other the “horror” stories I’ve heard them from several people. But, I’ll take my chances. I’d rather keep with nVidia but I hear ATI is better and cheaper. Also, is there like a PHYSX driver for ATI cards? nvidia are way more expensive and i have never heard a horror story. As for that 5750 that you got. Either go http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161302 (this is better and i would get it if i were you, i actually have one :D they are great) or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150447

And currently ATI is way better then nvidia (this seems to change around evry 3 years) Also get a core I5 or a Phenom 955 x4 And a board that supports Crossfire for future upgrades. For the card a 5770 would be way better. Or even a 5850 or 5870 if you want to spend that. Check this site to compare Graphic cards: (CF/Crossfire and SLI mean 2 cards) http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-cards-charts-2009-high-quality/Sum-of-FPS-Benchmarks-1680x1050,1634.html

Youve got DDR2 ram there, get DDR3
Youve got DDR2 ram there, get DDR3
Is there a significant difference between DDR2 and DDR3?
Is there a significant difference between DDR2 and DDR3?
Yes. Especially for the money you are spending.
There is a difference, but nothing extraordinary. From what I can see you are asking for an upgrade, but have imposed rules that disallow you from purchasing a significant upgrade from your current CPU and GPU. If you won't change your mind about this then you may as well keep your current system and get 2 more GB of RAM and a much better GPU.
With all that money you are willing to upgrade you could buy a whole new pc 4 times better than that you currently have right now.
With that money, you could get a 5870 i5 4gb ram nice case psu and everything you need
Really now? Fine they I'll take off the limit price on parts, but nothing stupidly expensive like a single part that cost 500 bucks.
Yeh OFC. Anyone want to make him a nice 5850/5870 build i got no time
I'll do it. One sec. It's very nice.
Whatever you do, get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.310963 free PSU
I like it 5870, however, i was thinking about getting the 5770 I posted earlier, although, I guess it would about the same price, and I suppose teo 5770s are not as powerful as one 5870? I've never had two cards before.
