My brother is upgrading his monitor from a 19" CRT to this, and would like to add a second graphics card in SLI, since we currently have a spare GTX 275 lying around.

His budget is £300 in total, and he also needs to get an F3 hard disk, since his RAID 0 disks are on their last legs (loud as hell and keep randomly spinning down then up during operation) and are nearly 7 years old (old school Maxtor ftw). Also according to benchmarks between his RAID and my F3, a single F3 would actually be a significant upgrade.
The PSU in his machine currently is a Jeantech 650W, but since it only has two 19A 12V rails, I don't think it has a chance of running SLI'd GTX 275s.
So he has approximately £100 to spend on a PSU which is capable of running GTX 275s in SLI. I would like it to be at least 850W, since I may need to swap my Corsair HX750 with him the future, as I'm not sure if it would be up to running CF'd 6970s (with no overclock; got unlucky with my current card (DirectCU II), it doesn't overclock more than 2%) along with a 1055T with 40% OC and 5 case fans. Of course I may be wrong - would an HX750 be adequate for Crossfire 6970s?
We would prefer to buy from Amazon (non-marketplace) since I have Prime, unless it's £15 cheaper elsewhere.
Currently he is considering the XFX 850W Core Edition, however the HardOCP review is a bit of a turn-off.
Amazon doesn't have a large selection of PSUs..

And I'm pretty sure you'd be safe with SLI 275s on an HX750
Might just blow the budget a bit and go with http://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-P1-850B-NLG9-Modular-Power-Supply/dp/B002OQIBJ0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306957208&sr=1-1
Seems to be an extremely good PSU, and he could benefit quite a bit from a modular one (small-ish Coolermaster 335 case)
Can't really go wrong with any of them.

although, an e6850 will probably horribly bottleneck SLI cards..

True, but he plays mostly Source games and likes to crank up AA, so the SLI should have at least some benefit.
max source at 1280x1024 should be fine on a single 275
IIRC XFXs PSUs use the exact same seasonic internals as the corsair tx___v2, the core version is cheaper than than the v2s while the modular version is around the same price
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/177664 if you wanted modular

Would that handle the SLI setup? Or would 750w be a safer bet?
650w should be able to handle 275s but not 6970s
for 6970s I'd say 750W but 850W preferred for lower temps, longer life and better efficiency
Went for the 750W Core Edition in the end, just to be on the safe side in case of future overclocking, cpu upgrades, etc.

I think if I ever do go with CF 6970s (which isn't hugely likely, microstutter drives me crazy) then my HX750 should cover it, at least going by this.
