• Half Life or Half Life: Source? - Which is the better one?

I admit Facepunch! I've never played the game that started it all. I joined the universe during HL2. So it's Summer Sale and it will probably be on sale or go on sale. I'd like to ask which version I should get. Get the original one or the source version? Mods are second place I guess (Don't know any good ones). I'll also be playing the game at 1080p (don't know if one or the other supports such resolution). :downs:
half life source adds ragdolls and some prettier (shit) water, i'd stick to goldsrc half-life
The original.
Does the original support 1080p? Edit: Seems like it does!
The original, because Half life source broke a lot of things. Many of the scientists float above their chairs by several feet for instance
half life source is worthless and a bad port, either buy the original or download better looking Black Mesa "Source"
Is bms finished? Last I heard they finally released it after like 100 years but it was still only half the game
Half-Life: Source has broken auto save triggers, valve did a terrible job at porting the maps.
tbh HL:S is only good as content for Garry's Mod.
Might just be me, but original HL always had AA by default.
HL:S has only one redeeming quality, and that's shadows. Unfortunately they don't always work so it doesn't matter. Also as I understand it, Source doesn't have support for hitboxes. Doing different amounts of damage like armor on alien grunts.
It'd be down to preference except for one thing, you move differently in HL:S, you have lower friction and your air control is a bit different. It wouldn't matter too much except for the fact that there's shitloads of jumping puzzles and the puzzles are designed to be beaten in goldSRC. You can do it in source (I did a full run) but it's a pain in the ass every time you have to do the shitty jumps, so I'd recommend goldsrc. And on your first run you should totally play goldsrc, it's the same for nearly any remake, play the original before the remake always.
Me clearly.......
gun stats and enemy behaviors are noticeably different in hl:s (and in the bad way) experience the real thing with hl1. it also has 2 excellent expansion packs.

Be sure to get Opposing Force and Blue Shift too, they are both great
HL:S is an embarrassing port, they shouldn't be selling it tbh.
hl source and dm should have been free with hl1 they shouldn't have the right to sell it again.
The original has a fuck-ton of mods like Sven-coop
I traded earbuds for Half Life: source (woo, $10 worth of game for pixels) so I could play with the NPCs in Gmod, but then they got removed..... It was a bad decision. I never actually played it because I already had the original.
Are the expansions necessary to experience the trilogy in it's full? Like if I play the 2 expansions, will there be parts that appeared in HL2 that you go ''Oh look! thats how he blabla did it!''

The original , to chop the dead bodies of your enemies and allies.

Technically the only part of the expansions that is even definitively canon is the ending of Opposing Force. The rest is only canon unless Valve decides that it's not one day. So far nothing in them has really been contradicted by anything Valve themselves have made since though so there's not really any glaring continuity discrepancies between the expansions and HL2. Overall though they're totally worth getting. Especially Opposing Force. It's a really well made expansion pack with tons of new content and a cool campaign. In some ways I actually prefer OpFor to the original game.
HL1 also has all the good mods.
The original is better, but HL:S is good for the Gmod content if you don't feel like porting anything to Gmod yourself.
HL1 has mods with it HL:S has a better flashlight HL:S has ragdolls HL1 is smaller (hdd space-wise) HL1 is likely to have fewer bugs HL1 runs better if you're running on a potato HL1's Multiplayer allows you to change the color of your playermodel HL:S has GMod content HL:S' water clashes with the graphics of normal HL That's all I can really think of. IMO get HL1 and play BMS if you want a Source version.
