I heard the game is as addicting as Factorio. Is that true? I'm looking for a game about crafting and building that I can't stop playing.

I'd compare it more to Dwarf Fortress, but yeah it's a good game with a lot of options to let you play at different paces. You can have an ant farm or a meat grinder, basically.
Gameplay is amazing, if now they could just make the art style and UI not ugly as fucking shit, I'd probably play it again.

Usually when a new update comes out I find myself in the game for 6h+.
It just happens.

i gotta say, its amazing seeing such creative projects, but presentation is super important.
the game isn't hideous it just screams programmer art. a project of this scale would be super easy to attract the attention of highly talented artists.
My dad plays the shit out of this.
His current preferred playstyle is to pick the coldest map possible, build a fort, and wait.
People attack, freeze to death, and are harvested for loot. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. He never has to fire a shot.

It was a lot worse before the redesign of most assets.
I personally like it. It is similar to Prison Architect and it does its job fine.
Not even sure what you could change, the style is fitting.

Having them all be highly detailed would look weird. The art style it has is simple, but it doesn't look bad.

This sounds like any time history class was about someone trying to invade Russia.

it doesn't have to be highly detailed, thats not what i was saying.

What sort of thing do you think could be done to improve it, then?

Hmm, Prison Architect actually looks nice though. As Pat.Lithium said, it appears as though it's just programmer art with RimWorld, and Ty has even admitted that and has said it will eventually be updated with 'proper art'.
i kind of like the simplistic, almost cutesy art, clashes well with the situations you get into like "my head miner's daughter accidentally got butchered and now he's an alcoholic" and "everyone is burning to death in their cave bedrooms because of an electrical fault"

i don't know i'm not an artist, but give it to someone with a vision for it and i'm sure they can create something wonderful.

i'd also like to say that i thoroughly enjoyed the devblog video. the developer is a really entertaining guy and i watched the whole thing.

There doesn't seem to really be a lot they can do without entirely changing the gameplay itself as well because of the perspective of it all. Modders have been able to create new things for the game for a while yet we haven't really had anyone overhall the graphics style.
