I wanted to get this laptop http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/Battalion_101_W25AES_2_Gaming_Laptop for school since I plan on going to school for video game design, do you think it's up to notch enough? Or should I go a little higher?
The GT 630m follows Nvidias' continuing ideology of selling last generation tech as a rebranded current gen part. The 630M can actually be one of three different rebranded GPUs, and only one of them is actually worth anything. If you want to roll the dice with a 66% chance of getting crap, then go ahead and buy the laptop. But any reputable VG design school is going to have purpose built computers for students to design and play games on, having a gaming laptop is just a waste. If you need a computer for a dorm, I'd recommend making an ITX build in a case like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163171 It's small enough where you can stuff it anywhere, and big enough to where you can put a relatively beefy dual slot GPU in it.
