So, I've found out my Dad's real last name is Bell and not Woodward, His Mum(My Grandmother) remarried after my Granddad left her and went to Australia.
My Dad become a Woodward way before I was even a thought in his mind.
So after I was born, I took on Woodward as my second name but it's not my Bloodname if that's a thing?
I've found my Granddad in Australia and sure enough he's a Bell and has a whole family over there.
I've never met or even know this Step Granddad Woodward.
I'm not really sure how to feel about this one?
I guess change if your dad wants to do it too, because it'd be weird if you had a different name to him
But like, don't worry about what your name is it really doesn't matter that much
No such thing as a "blood" name... It's merely tradition to take the suname of your father.
The question you need to ask yourself is why you want to change your name. To honour your grandfather who left your grandmother and your dad? Would your dad be offended you don't want to use his name? Etc. Do a pros and cons list if it helps.
Well my Grandmother on my Dad side is a bit of a crazy bitch, so there is no blame for my Granddad moving to Australia(Even Step-Granddad Woodward left her crazy ass), I'm sure it was for the best, It didn't do my Dad any harm anyway, he had a good upbringing.
I've just sent a lot of time thinking about heritage and family since learning my Dad was told he has cancer, I'm an only child and just think that carrying the name Woodward when it's really nothing to do with me is strange, it's just from some guy that happened to bunk up with loopy lady.
When I say Blood name I guess I mean lineage, It's only now that I feel I could even start to trace the right line of lineage?
