• Win32\PowerRegScheduler - dangerous or not?

One of my friends downloaded a torrent of Splinter Cell, and scanned the ISO. His antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials) said that a threat was found. It was called Win32\PowerRegScheduler. He did some research, and found out that it could be either something that came with the game, and was something to register the game with, or some kind of evil, identity stealing malware. He asked me to find out what it was, and I thought of you guys. So, please tell me, can he safely install it, or what?
PowerRegScheduler is a product registration system used by some legitimate software programs. It collects demographic data for vendors who use PowerRegScheduler as a product registration reminder. PowerRegScheduler collects data such as your name, address, e-mail, place of purchase, product serial number, etc. This data is transmitted to PowerRegScheduler servers and is then made available to the manufacturer of the purchased product
But at the other hand it could be something bad. But at the other other hand, he downloaded an illegal torrent, so there's some chance it is bad.

Although he told me that the torrents' comments made it appear to be alright. Is there any way to find out whether it is the good or evil version of the program we are dealing with here?
There is no way for your friend  to determine if the file is safe unless he either trusts his antivirus or just runs the program. Honestly its not worth the hassle, I mean come on the game is $10 on Steam. No point in playing russian roulette with a sketchy file if you can just buy it from a trusted source for the price of a McDonalds meal, not to mention the game is well worth the money.
Yeah, you're probably right. Thanks!
