So i've been away since August so i have no idea what's the best stuff, mediocre stuff and the cheap stuff these days? i5 750 and a 5850 still the way to go for medium ranged builds? ATi still better than NVIDIA? Sorry if this is the wrong area to post this
6870 is better than 5850, they're around the same price. There hasn't been much change in the desktop CPU area. 580 GTX < 5970, ATI is now AMD (branding). AMD 68xx series are the mid range (57xx) cards of their generation. 6970 and 6950 are no shows till mid December.
Who marked me dumb :ohdear: Anyway thanks. Explained it well.
Who marked me dumb :ohdear: Anyway thanks. Explained it well.
I think it's because the sentence "Is ATi still better than Nvidia?" could sound fanboyish. Welcome back anyway.
Well back in august the 58xxs and 59xx were far superior to the NVIDIA equivalent even though there was the 4xx series.
no, not really the 470 is an excellent midpoint between the 5850 and 5870 and depending on the site tends to perform closer to the 5870 while costing closer to the 5850 the 460 is one of the best price/performance cards out there and while the 6850 is similar usually the 460 is a better choice if only for the coolers
Well back in august the 58xxs and 59xx were far superior to the NVIDIA equivalent even though there was the 4xx series.
I didn't say otherwise. I just said that it could be misunderstood like you meant that ATi simply is better than Nvidia. Who cares about ratings anyway.
Cheers. I'll get more into it. Might buy a new CPU, GPU and PSU soon anyway.
Aren't you on a Q6600 and a 4890?
Someone has good memory. Anyway that one broke. I'm on a rubbish laptop now.
Someone has good memory. Anyway that one broke. I'm on a rubbish laptop now.
What broke in it?
I was moving to live in to Africa where i was staying for a couple months and the moving company broke it. I got compensation which I'm yet to spend. The PSU RAM and HDD was fine though. I'll obviously need to buy a new Motherboard and Case aswell as the GPU CPU and a new PSU because the old was is rubbish.

What's new you ask? Price drops.

don't come back
Hello to you too
You know, a better title would be "What isn't new in the PC parts world?"
6870 is slightly faster than GTX 460 I think. 2 6870s in crossfire scale really well.
Of course the 6870 is faster than the 460. The 6870 performs like a 470 and the 6850 like a 460. Why is is taking people so long to get this into their heads?
Thanks people
