Just to be clear, the DLC are not free. Only the improvements are.
Commonly known as "Ultimate Edition" or "Game of the Year Edition".
Lots of bitching on this one it seems for no good reason. Extra content will be updated for free, no extra purchase required. DLC however is just bundled in, still have to pay for it.
What is a bit odd is that PC players who can only handle DirectX 9 will be on different servers than those running DirectX 11. Don't really understand how graphics and special effects impacts gameplay to such an extent that they felt the need to divide the community there.
I just think it's nice that they decided to add a little more to the Ultimate Edition. The new NPCs and their stories will give VaatiVidya something to talk about, that much we can assume. Always nice to see a game still supported so long after release, especially with their PS4 exclusive Bloodborne, aka Demons' Souls 2, coming out in March of next year.
Right so from what I understand if I own the game on steam and the season pass (all the DLC) I will get an update for the game that pretty much turns it into this new version?
With or without the dlc you get the new version
Sweet.
At what point did VaatiVidya become the authority on Dark Souls anyway? Because everyone seems to take his theories, often stolen wholesale from forums and then accredited to himself, as law and he fills in a hell of a lot of gaps with conjecture.
at the point where he is pretty much the only good dark souls theorist on youtube

i feel the same with matthewmatosis
everything he says is somehow considered an absolute truth for some reason and it really annoys me because dark souls 2 gets way more shit because of that than it deserves

Are you for real or you simply don't look stuff up on youtube?
i am for real, i dont need to look up anybody else except vaatividya because he is p much great.
also all of the things in dark souls are really up for your own interpretation, so vaatis videos are just his own interpretations about the things that are happening in the game.
[editline]25th November 2014[/editline]
also dark souls 2 gets shat on because its so much worse than dark souls 1. still a good game, dont get me wrong, but it just doesnt get on the level of greatness dark souls 1 was on
Hey so uh apparently you have to fucking re-buy the game to get the new features on PC, it's not just getting patched in

Yeah, you only get the new features for free, but the DX11 version of the game (which could've been in the original PC release if they took more time but didn't, even after an unwarranted 1-month delay) is still paid. From really fucked up.

Hopefully there will be a loyalty discount, like Deus Ex Human Revolution.
That sounds really stupid.

The fixes are great, but there is no excuse for the visual upgrade being paid.
I heard the paid upgrade is to piss off the DSs game director who left for Sony. They want to tarnish the image of the series before Bloodborn comes out.

whod you here that from? your uncle at sony?
I'm sitting in the "Cautiously Optimistic" crowd here. While I would love a bit more to the world of Dark Souls 2, I think they would have a better time releasing a fix for Dark Souls 1 especially with the migration (eventually) coming.
Also, if we do have to re-buy DS2 to get the graphical updates, I'll likely let that pass.

The DX11 edition comes with vastly improved netcode which can support up to 6 players in one world

Oh, that's neat.
I heard the paid upgrade is to piss off the DSs game director who left for Sony. They want to tarnish the image of the series before Bloodborne comes out.
That would be retarded since both games are developed by FROM Software.
The DX11 edition comes with vastly improved netcode which can support up to 6 players in one world
Remember this is From Software we're talking about. Expecting anything more than lagstabs, random disconnects and excessive phantom range would be silly.
While it's pretty neat that they're improving the visuals and stuff, I have a hard time seeing this as more than a cash grab. This is the 4th dlc, and they're demanding you re-buy the game?
At this point I won't be surprised when Dark Souls 3 is announced.

I think he was spot on with his Dark Souls 2 critique. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy Dark Souls 2, just slighty less so than DaS or DeS.

The director didn't leave for Sony. From developed all the Souls games and they are developing Bloodborne. They just had a contract to work with Namco to make Dark Souls, now they have a contract to work with Sony on Bloodborne.
The director for Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, Miyazaki, is the top guy at From Software ever since Kadokawa Holdings bought them.
