Gross interface.
Maybe it's just me but I'm not a huge fan of that simple box style.
Downloading as soon as I get home
Seems simcity5 is more important than windows 8
:zoid:
Give me back my START button !

yeah, hasn't that been one of the Windows traditions since Windows got a (G)UI?
Nope. Microsoft's apparently still following the OS pattern so I'm not getting it.

No.
yeah, hasn't that been one of the Windows traditions since Windows got a (G)UI?
No. The Start button didn't exist until Windows 95. Windows 3.1 and earlier had nothing of the sort.
Definitely going to pass on this. It doesn't seem like an upgrade to me.
How would I download it?
What's the problem? They are obviously trying to stay consistent (and stay competitive) so all of their products channel some kind of brand atmosphere. The images and the picture quality of the gui is very sharp, it's not the best thing I've ever seen, but it's not the worst.
Frankly I think it looks fine, at-least they aren't all over the place this time. (xbox dashboard/windows mobile/zune etc) all resemble their "Simple and clean/live tiles" branded gui

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds Metro horrible. Simplistic is good, but they've gone too far. It's not really the boxes I don't like, it's the fact that there's no visual niceness added to it. I'm not expecting it all to glimmer and sparkle, but the visual style really started to improve after XP. The Aero style seems really polished to me. Not that they need to keep Aero, but Metro just looks too basic
It is a horrible interface (desktop =/= smartphone) but boy it sure is a good thing everybody read into it a little and found out that you can turn it off and go back to Aero if you want!
...oh
Less information on screen at once. No thanks. Waiting till windows 9, that'll probably be great again.
Have they released any screenshots of it without the new UI?
I like the new Metro theme; it's very clean and a lot more consistent than the current one. However, the new Start menu and how applications are dealt with is just not going to work on a desktop. Everything is designed to run fullscreen and lots of critical areas are accessed through gestures rather than buttons. While that system might work perfectly on a touchscreen, it's just so inefficient with a keyboard and mouse. I seriously hope that Microsoft at the very least reintroduces a button for the Start menu, otherwise I think they're on course for a major flop in the desktop market.

Er, I'm fairly certain Windows always had a GUI.
Also,

More like "If you want your computer to work, get ready to hand over your wallet."
If it ain't broken, don't fix it...
Er, I'm fairly certain Windows always had a GUI.
It's had a GUI ever since it was a GUI for DOS. :v:

Can you fully disable it? Can you get the Start button/menu back?
you could on the Developer Preview, but they kinda removed that on the Consumer Preview... what forces me to deal with metro atm...
god damnit apple why did you have to start this whole app bullhonkey

A decade ago that line would have been: "Toolbars bring to life the Internet Explorer. The more toolbars you have, the more professional you are."
Downloading, I can't wait for my computer to look like a smartphone
Can we change it to the normal desktop like we can when it's released? (or so I have been told)
If we can't, then I'll just wait.
I thought Windows 8 still had the Aero theme as well. But was slightly different because it was missing a Start button among other things.

Granted it's just an interface that is there when you open Windows 8, and you can switch to the normal desktop.
It just seems completely unnecessary, a majority of the time you probably won't even use those apps, and just instantly go to the normal desktop.
Can please someone explain the difference between an app and a program?
Edit:
So I looked it up, and as expected there is none.
In information technology, an application is a computer program designed to help people perform an activity. An application thus differs from an operating system (which runs a computer), a utility (which performs maintenance or general-purpose chores), and a programming tools (with which computer programs are created). Depending on the activity for which it was designed, an application can manipulate text, numbers, graphics, or a combination of these elements. Some application packages offer considerable computing power by focusing on a single task, such as word processing; others, called integrated software, offer somewhat less power but include several applications. User-written software tailors systems to meet the user's specific needs. User-written software include spreadsheet templates, word processor macros, scientific simulations, graphics and animation scripts. Even email filters are a kind of user software. Users create this software themselves and often overlook how important it is.
