Hey guys! This is my first attempt at compiling a list of hardware for a computer I would like to build in a few months time: [REVISED LIST] Fractal Design Define R3, Black Pearl, Mid Tower Case w/o PSU £89.99 Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3, AMD 770, AM3, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR3 1666/1333, SATA 3Gb/s RAID, ATX £57.30 4GB Corsair XMS3, DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, 1.50V £61.22 AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition, Sok AM3, 3.2GHz, 8MB Total Cache, 125W, Retail £110.39 1536MB EVGA GTX 480 SC, 40nm, 3800MHz GDDR5, GPU 726MHz, Shader 1451MHz, 480 Cores, DL DVI/mHDMI £328.39 650W XFX XXX, Modular PSU, 85% eff', SLI/CrossFire, EPS 12V, 135mm Fan, Single Rail £70.46 Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v2.1 - S1366/S1156/S775/AM3/AM2+/AM2/939 Up to 130 Watts! £15.25 Samsung TS-H353B Black 48x CD-ROM 16x DVD-ROM, SATA, OEM £8.58 1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3, SATA 3Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ, OEM £41.07 60GB Corsair Force F60, MLC-Flash, 2.5" Sandforce SSD, Read 285MB/s, Write 275MB/s, w/ bracket £93.53 2x 120mm Sharkoon Sys. Fan Silent 21dB(A) Case Fan £10.56 Total: £939.83 What do you think of this build? Is there anything you would change? Would I be able to run ANY game at max? Thanks for any help you can give me!
965 is just 955 with more clock
If you want a Antec 900 get the 900-2 it is much better, you can actually cable manage in it.
Ok ill change that, does anyone know if that power supply is good enough?
Get the AMD 1055T 6 Core over the x4. Its only an extra £30. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-267-AM&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1328
a few suggestions, dump the sound card onboard sound or gpu hdmi audio output is good enough now. to really use audio through hdmi out you need some sort of av reciever, a cheapo one with just lpcm is fine and not to costly but wouldnt be compatible with any pc speakers you might have. you could probably get a receiver for what the soundcard would cost you but speakers and a sub will probably be a couple of hundred on top of that (my q accoustic 1010i package cost about £300) change the case to a fractal design R3 link its cheaper and doesnt suck, possibly get a more powerful psu if you think you might do sli in the future, better to spend a little more now than having to buy a new psu if you do. i think a 60GB SSD is a bit pointless i would save the money
The first sentence didnt make sense and what is SLI?
SLI = using multiple graphics cards to increase performance doesnt really matter as that motherboard only has 1 16x pci-e slot
Oh I know what you mean now.
Get the 965, it's higher binned
965 what?
get rid of the pre overclocked shit, get the Cooler Master Hyper 212+, and get a 955 [editline]6th November 2010[/editline] actually why are you not going i5 on this build [editline]6th November 2010[/editline] and get the Corsair F60 if you're getting an SSD, it's slightly faster than the Vertex 2s with random reads/writes regardless of what Milky will, assuredly, come in here saying.
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Soundcard - PCI-E(x1), 7.1 speaker output £75.66
ASUS Xonar DS/DX are better compared to this sound card, but really, don't take sound cards except if you plan of buying (or already got) high-quality headphones/speakers. And change the case for an Fractal Design Define XL (or R3) by the way.

My bad, I was referring mostly from bit-tech.net article. [editline]6th November 2010[/editline] I won't argue too much about it because I have no knowledge about sound cards.
Updated the list, is this good?
Change case to CM690 II, much better for the money.
FD R3 is somewhat better than CM690, if you don't except a multi-card setup of course
is there anywhere you can get a Fractal case in the US?
is there anywhere you can get a Fractal case in the US?
NCIX have some
Why not go i5 with that kind of cash?
Is there any need?
Is there any need?
Why get worse when you can get better.
Is there any need?
It's more of a "why not, I have the money for the extra performance". It isn't an incredible amount, and it isn't noticeable in most applications, but the small boost in performance could come in handy some day. Though the Phenom II x4 955 is a very good still. Mine has done me well.
[img_thumb]http://static.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/box.png[/img_thumb]
But Axiom, you're such a big fan of 6 core processors. Or is it only Intel ones. OP, Axiom is telling you to get a 980x, I think.
But Axiom, you're such a big fan of 6 core processors. Or is it only Intel ones. OP, Axiom is telling you to get a 980x, I think.
There is no need for a 6 core yet, nothing any normal facepunch user does uses that.
