Lets say i felt like playing some heavy game like Crysis on Maximum settings for 15 hours streight, could the 5970 overheat?
who games for 15 yours straight? really? and it'll be fine
Pepper;21063403']most WoW addicts
WoW is not crysis. Well, I suppose if it's as badly optimized as people say it is you might have a point.
who games for 15 yours straight? really? and it'll be fine
I've done 17 hour sessions of source sdk, but that is obviously a less intensive thing. Odds are it wont overheat as long as you give it a half hour to cool down every 4 hours or so. That's just my best estimation though.

New 5xxx series run cool it should have no problem. You could even crank up the fan speed with MSI Afterburner.
my 5970 idles on 44 which is a fuckload cooler than i had expected

Onboard graphic would be fine even. So that's not too relevant.
where are you guys pulling 750$ out of your asses? especially since the the op obviously has never used a temp management program.
Isn't the 5970's cooler designed for 400W TDP, but the card consumes a bit less than 300W? If so, there shouldn't be any cooling problems at all. The card was designed with overclocking in mind, they just clocked it lower to keep the power consumption under 300W.
