Computer would boot up but wouldn't show anything on screen

Even though the problem is "fixed" now I have no idea how it happened. I turned off my computer and went to sleep and when I woke up and tried turning it on, well it would constantly start up and shutdown and start up and shut down. I decided to just try booting up some time later and it magically worked again and I'm typing this message on the computer right now. I still wonder why it didn't start up the first time i pressed the buton. Can anyone tell me why? I'm scared next time I restart it'll not work like today.
