because there are now popular music stations all over the country legally. when those radio stations were operating it was because nobody played the music that the youths wanted to listen to on normal radio stations, so these sprang up to fill a gap in the market.
now that there's plenty of radio stations that play pop and rock music, there's no need for them. plus i'm fairly sure the legislation regarding them is more developed and rigorous nowadays meaning it'd be harder for them to operate.
