I'll save you from reading the article: Thirteen games, including three Final Fantasies (12, 9, X+X2), two games I'm not sure are strictly RPGs (Nier: Automata and Recettear), three games I am sure are not J (Barkley: Shut Up And Jam: Gaiden, South Park: Stick of Truth, and Cosmic Star Heroine (Zeboyd Games is two dudes in California)), and five other games that are pretty expected, that any JRPG PC fan would already know about (Valkyria Chronicles, Tales of Berseria, Disgaea 2, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky).
Not the worst clickbait listicle but kind of eh. Although I am surprised Zeboyd made a new game and I hadn't heard about it yet somehow.
how is stick of truth a JRPG lmao
Yeah not sure how Nier or Valkyria is a JRPG at all
If Nier is on there they might as well put Dark Souls on the list too :vs:
That's an awful lot of words to say BUY TRAILS IN THE SKY.
FF games are all you need my man
Putting three games that aren't JRPGs on a list of JRPGs is like saying that Avatar is your favourite anime.
How do you have a JRPG list and not include Final Fantasy IV or VI, which do happen to have PC ports? I mean yeah, they both are ports of ports of ports and VI PC has lousy RPG Maker'esque graphics but they still stand as two of the best JRPGS, period.
Kind of wrong to not include The Last Remnant. This game took a huge chunk of my time, and it's like... the only turn-based JRPG that i didn't hate (not including tactics games)

their closer to being jrpg's than south park
but this is pcgamer here
and everything they post is wrong, so...
No Anachronox?
Instant regret by giving them click.

Such a bad article.

So that all depends on how one defines what is a JRPG.
If you go purely by gameplay mechanics, sure, BSUJG is a JRPG.
If you go by "it's an RPG made in Japan", BSUJG is clearly not a JRPG. That's the definition I used for my post, since it's the hardest to argue whether individual games meet that criterion.
Personally, I usually consider JRPGs to be a combined mechanical/aesthetic game genre. BSUJG plays like a JRPG, but it doesn't look like one. Half-JRPG at best. jRPG.

BSUAJG has the graphical style down too, though. It's only location that's missing.

The style is iconic to an early version of RPGMaker (2003). Literally every game made in it has that style, and it doesn’t make them all JRPGs. OFF for example was made originally in French, but it has characteristics akin to BSUAJG and lots of other RPGs. They have the same system but that doesn’t make them JRPGs out of necessity. They’re just RPGs of a different time.
I was expecting the article to be empty.
Dunno if it counts since its more of an action-adventure sort of thing with RPG elements. But the PC port of Dragons Dogma is -the- shit
