This also means they dropped mod support.
Place your bets, server goes down 5 minutes after launch
Can't blame them for wanting to force people into multiplayer when they're working so hard to deliver on the MMO aspect of things.
My biggest fear is that the same will happen to SC, the way they completely stopped talking about the singleplayer.

trust me, they won't do that since mod support is a big part of it.
Also with SC the singleplayer is kind of seperate. It's essentially a prelude to the PU. That's what they're referencing every time "Squadron 42" is mentioned. Shame about Elite Dangerous though, but admittedly I'm probably still going to get it when it releases.
I personally don't quite mind but I can imagine how this can be a bit of a turn-off for some people.
Still an incredibly fun game and worth the purchase already in my opinion.

Star Citizen is a different animal though. It's being made for modding and player hosted servers that can be modded as well. Elite is going for one centralized server from what I understand.
I liked frontier more anyway

Considering that the SP is like half the game (Chris Roberts games have always had an SP focus) and is practically for all intents and purposes a different game from Star Citizen (They even have different names; Squadron 42 is the SP and Star Citizen is the MP), I dont think SP is going to be left by the wayside.
I just hope they have an API, I want to take 2 tablets and make them act as panels
I can hardly blame them, it's supposed to be like an MMO
however I have no idea of what people were expecting since I never backed it, only preordered it

Offline play was promised back in the original kickstarter and a part of official documentation all the way up until a few days ago. For almost two years people were expecting offline play then a month before release they scrap it.

Ah I see
However anyone who played the alpha for the months it's been out could see that it would have had to have been scraped a long time ago since there was literally no way to play offline under any circumstance.
That does seem rather unprofessional however to "promise" a function then remove it. I would hope they had good enough reasons.
