• Question about compatibility

So, I'm deciding to upgrade my CPU from a Core 2 duo and I'm looking on newegg for some Quads. I want to make sure my motherboard is compatible with the new CPU, so I checked the site and I can't find the CPU I was looking to get (Q8400) on the list. At first I assumed that it meant that it just wasn't supported, but then I noticed that the list also consists of many ones that aren't supported and I was wondering why the 8400 was left off. If there's any way it could be possible to tell if this motherboard: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=2553 EDIT: Just checked the link, the gigabyte website is pretty slow atm, but it worked eventually. Is compatible with this CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115057 it would be greatly appreciated.
Yes.
How did you come to this conclusion? Mainly wondering because I'm interested.
Spend the extra $20 and get this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115131
I was thinking that originally, but if you looked at the list, that one is stated to not be supported by the motherboard.
I was thinking that originally, but if you looked at the list, that one is stated to not be supported by the motherboard.
Well Newegg says that it supports Core 2 quads. I have a EVGA 680i mobo and don't have any problems with my Q6600. I don't see why so many CPUs wouldn't work with that board though. I honestly can't say it will work but, Email Gigabyte and see what they have to say. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128037
Yeah, I've done that already. It really is quite odd. It boasts it's "Quad core capabilities" but only supports like 3 quad cores (6600 being one of them). Kind of disappointing considering I originally bought this mobo because it would be upgradable =/
