It still makes me uncomfortable knowing Sgt Mark used pictures of actual brain matter from gore images for his gibs.
I hope that it fixes the save game corruption bug where if you save there is a chance for the save to become corrupted and you can't load it anymore.

I thought he stopped doing that and remade them from scratch again?
I thought he stopped doing that and remade them from scratch again?
Nope, he has offered the "Real Gore" as an add-on since its creation. He still has the video up and you can download it here:

Sorry that his post is a bit hard to read. He got banned for making racial slurs and telling people to kill themselves.
Incidentally, he censored his original video "Real Gore" video description, so here it is in all its glory:
Today I decided to take the gore of Brutal Doom to a whole new level!
Through these two years of development, some gib sprites from Nashgore still remained, so, I decided to make whole new sprites to replace them. Where to find the material? Making fake wax pieces of gore myself and taking pics of it? No, but searching the internet for REAL gore, and trying to turn pieces of these pictures of REAL DEAD PEOPLE into sprites.
In this demostrative video you can see 3 pieces of REAL GORE: These pinky brain pieces at 00:07 were taken from a picture of a guy wich got his head ran over by a bus, and his brain splattered all over the street. The eye globe at 00:10 is taken from a guy that got his face shoot by a shotgun at point blank. These generic meat pieces flying at 01:10 are from a pic of a guy butchered by the mexican cartels.
I'm not going to remake ALL sprites using real gore because it takes a lot of time, and it takes hours searching for pictures with the gore in an useable condidtion and angle to be used, but if anybody knows where I can find a clear picture of exposed human entrails, please send the link via PM
That's extremely disturbing. Not the fact that it's real gore, but the fact that he goes into such detail describing it. It's almost like he's dedicated to prove that he's passionate about that small fact. (I'm referring to the original video description)

That's quite sick but quite impressive.
I'm divided whether I should be appalled or impressed.

Well, that kind of behavior seems fitting considering his work.
Can you guys recommend me some good (and preferably long) map packs? I already finished Doom 1 and 2 using this mod and I still have the two official-unofficial map packs somewhere on my PC.

Scythe 2 and Jenesis are great wads and they both run well with brutal doom.

speed of doom if you hate yourself
It doesn't matter if it's online.
It doesn't matter if it has a story.
It doesn't matter if it has the highest resolution textures of a video game, ever.
At the end of the day, Doom still remains one of the best games to blow shit up in.
The new plasma gun is awesome.
Is it just me or does this version completely get rid of menu audio?

The weapons, ranging from the shotgun to the BFG (fuck you pistol) are ALL so god damned full of punch, game's a masterpiece when it comes to making you feel powerful as fuck.

And the best part is that while it makes you feel powerful, you'll still get slaughtered if you aren't careful.

There's actually a lot of games that use real photos for gore (good example is L4D2) so i'm not really surprised by that fact, but the way he describes it sounds rather... uncanny.

With Brutal Doom, even the pistol (now a rifle) is a powerful and dangerous weapon. You can actually completely mostly the entire game using just that, if you're skilled enough.

Wait what
can I run brutal doom with chex quest? just curious
You can actually completely mostly the entire game using just that, if you're skilled enough.
Headshots are your friend. Also, easy way to kill Hell Knights/Barons, kick them in the balls and shoot them in the head when they're down.
also the Pistol isn't in the base mod, it was replaced with an Assault Rifle.
There's actually a lot of games that use real photos for gore (good example is L4D2)
This is not correct. One of L4D2's artists had reference photos of real injuries and diseases available, but none of them were ever used in the game. They just used housing insulation and potato skins instead. Source from the commentary:
"[Bronwen Grimes] The infected textures are part hand-painted, part photographic reference. One of our team members had a nightmare folder full of photographs of people suffering from bizarre diseases and injuries. They were so hard to look at that the infected actually contain none of these. Instead, the secret ingredients for infecting normal-looking human textures are photos of housing insulation and potato skins."
The author of Brutal Doom is just a mentally unstable weirdo, is all.
Wait what
Pretty sure the Serious Sam 3 devs used real pictures of cattle for their gore
can I run brutal doom with chex quest? just curious
you can using the ketchup test, and i think he made brutal chex but i dont know if that was just an april fools or not

And the developers of Dead Space used pictures of car crash accidents as reference for all the dismemberment in the game.
referencing gore for in-game assets is common
actually using the picture itself is not

I'm convinced that Doom is timeless, and will continue to be so for generations.
