but how would licensing work, would microsoft be able to track it? Edit: yeah, thanks for the dumb rating s guys, just asking a perfectly decent question here :/
but how would licensing work, would microsoft be able to track it? Edit: yeah, thanks for the dumb rating s guys, just asking a perfectly decent question here :/
Hmm, maybe the two computers would automatically get the same license key....In that case it wouldn't work, and you might risk getting his windows broken. (In the sense that it thinks it's invalid)
hmm, not good, know where i can *ahem* aquire a new copy? has to be 64 bit though, im upgrading my CPU Edit: oh yeah, know if this CPU will run on this laptop? what do you mean by acquire
If you use the same disk on two different computers, that you want to put online it will not work. It may work for a few days, then it will say the latter one is not genuine.
what do you mean by acquire
i mean get a copy without the added complication of a fee
You can probably not use your father's CD, seeing as your hardware ID is still unique, even though you got the same specs.
Key activation is really weird. I used an OEM install disc and activated my copy of Vista64 after installation with the key on the sticker of the now-defunct computer and everything runs happily. I did the same with XP too when the screen cracked on my Dell laptop. You can't use the same key on two machines though, so you'll need to find your own.
i mean get a copy without the added complication of a fee
Enjoy your ban Next time, remember that talking about piracy here gets you banned. By the way, Google is always your friend, but if you do download it, shame on you.
i mean get a copy without the added complication of a fee
Quit being dumb and buy it.
i mean get a copy without the added complication of a fee
Why would you want to do that?
i mean get a copy without the added complication of a fee
You don't. :ms: [editline]29th December 2010[/editline]
hmm, not good, know where i can *ahem* aquire a new copy? has to be 64 bit though, im upgrading my CPU Edit: oh yeah, know if this CPU will run on this laptop? Short answer: No. Long answer: No. No you cannot. Different socket, sometimes laptop CPUs are soldered on.

Dell laptops are not so bad. They even have full picture guides on disassembly for some of their laptops. Others I'm not sure about.
Basically, Dell restore discs work by embedded code in the Bios, during recovery the disc reads the computers licence key from the computer, meaning you don't have to enter a key, or activate it, it will go straight through. This means the same disc will work across same models of computer, but only for the same versions of software.
