• Cleaning Unused Drivers
    10 replies, posted
In a few days my new PC parts will arrive and I'm going to put everything together. The only old part that I'm using is my hard drive from my old build, however because of this, it's going to have a bunch of incorrect and unused drivers. How do I go about cleaning these away? Edit: Reason for old drivers is because I'm not reformatting and reinstalling Windows. I'm going to get the drivers for the new parts and go from there.
Easiest way without downloading anything is to use device manager
I'm ok with downloading something. What would be best?
You're likely going to have to reinstall anyway. Windows usually fucks up when a major part such as the motherboard is changed.
Like cdlink14 says Windows has a tendency to fuck up, become unstable or otherwise become an annoyance to work with when practically every hardware component it works with are changed. Trust me it's much easier to just do a reinstall, it'll save you a lot of hassle.
Damnit. That's $100 I have to spend then. Ugh, alright. Thanks for the help guys.
Reinstalling doesn't mean you need to repurchase. Get the Windows Keys from your current install by using a key reader (like http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ ) and then download the appropriate ISO for your version of Windows found here http://www.mydigitallife.info/download-windows-7-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit-direct-download-links/

Even if it's not, he won't let me use it again for whatever reason. So my only other option is to purchase a new copy.

Surprised the hell out of me though. The computer came in not working, we couldn't get it to even post, and when we took the heat sink off there was no thermal paste. :v: [editline]14th November 2012[/editline]
Oh I have the key, but it's my father's copy of Windows and apparently it's used up. Theres a program called Driver Fusion. I think it's the new Driver Sweeper. It's useful to completely remove all files from uninstalled drivers like nvidia drivers, amd drivers, etc. Try it, it's free.
You can try using phone activation, sometimes it just doesn't give a shit about activation times.
