• Where to buy a Windows 10 key?

I am currently building a new pc for my brother. All that is still needed is a Windows 10 key. The problem is where to buy a legit and cheap one? It does not really matter if it is a Home or Pro key, it just has to be 64bit. I wouldn't really buy from eBay or Amazon, since I just do not want to get fucked over.
https://www.reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap [editline]6th October 2016[/editline] Personally bought a Windows 8.1 key on there, and it worked perfectly. [editline]6th October 2016[/editline] Make sure you buy from a verified seller with good reputation.
I've personally bought from kinguin.net they're generally ok, and have insurance on if the key doesn't work. they have OEM keys only, non-upgrade keys.

Bought mine from Kinguin.net as well
Kinguin? Actually never thought about that since I considered them kind of shady in that regard.
Kinguin keys are safe to use but a lot of them have been acquired through crimes such as chargeback fraud, theft or money laundering.
Isn't that an ironic statement? They're safe to use, but they're from stolen / from crime.
you wont get in trouble by using them, it just hurts the developers.
I doubt even 10% of money they make off Windows is off of licenses they sell. It's all in the OEMs paying to license it for laptops.
If you can get a Win 7/8 key for cheaper, you can still upgrade from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade
If you can get a Win 7/8 key for cheaper, you can still upgrade from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade
That would require me to install 7 or 8 before. I do not really want to do that and start completely clean with 10.
That would require me to install 7 or 8 before. I do not really want to do that and start completely clean with 10.
You can clean install from the updater
You just need to install w7/w8 first and "upgrade" your license to windows 10. After that your hardware will be registered to have windows 10 license and it won't even ask for key when you make clean install of w10, or if it asks you can just use temporary license until it recognizes and activates your own key. But does that work anymore tho since free w10 upgrade period has ended? Or did i miss something? EDIT: Oh right should have read the link.
However, if you use assistive technologies, you can still get the free upgrade offer even after the general public deadline expires as Microsoft continues our efforts to improve the Windows 10 experience for people who use these technologies.
What does "assistive technologies" even mean?
I actually still have a win7 key here, just no install medium. Hopefully you can download an image from MS.
I actually still have a win7 key here, just no install medium. Hopefully you can download an image from MS.
Yes you can. Microsoft offers install images and software for creating install DVD's on their site. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7 (looks like they now ask for your product key in order to download iso)
I thought Win 7 keys actually work with Win 10? Couldn't OP just use the DVD creator on his computer to a USB and then plunk his W7 key in during install?
That was only possible during the Open upgrade program which has already ended.
When buying a key from a 3rd party, make sure the key's retail/permanent, and not a phony MSDN or Academic key. These will expire after a while.
Can't you just install Windows 10 without a key in that 30 day trial mode and then buy a key from the Settings app? I don't know how much that is compared to sites like Kinguin but it's guaranteed legit
you wont get in trouble by using them, it just hurts the developers.
Why buy it anyways then? You're just giving money to scumbags, money which Microsoft will never see. It used to just nag you occasionally back in 8 when I was too lazy to actually activate my key for a few months, if it still does that OP could just not activate it, have his brother put up with the occasional nagging and wallpaper resets, and then activate it when he has the money.

Its annoying, but not a computer ruiner, like XP was. :v:
a Windows 10 OEM Key from microsoft usually costs anywhere from $120-$140 whereas you can buy a key from kinguin for ~$26
But with Kinguin you fall into a moral and legal grey area. I'm not your mom, so I can't exactly tell you not to do it, I'm just saying there's a less risky option.
Basically it comes down to either cheap or legit, not both.
I wonder if people sell their MSDN keys
Be careful of that subreddit. I recently as of 1 week ago had Microsoft blacklist the key I was given. So now I used daz loader which works perfectly. I would still be using a legit key if i didn't lose my old pc tower. Which had my original windows 7 key. They person I bought from on that subreddit was s5ean. I used they key from Feb to Oct of this year before it was banned. And if you don't believe me try this key he gave me. Had that happen a few years ago when a friend gave me a key from MSDN. His subscription expired and so did the key. Had no issues so far with DreamSpark/Imagine keys expiring after leaving the institution.

Like, I'm in two user groups. One with an expiration, but no group assigned, and another under the IT faculty, but no expiration date they usually expire every year, and you have to tell your ITS team to update your account, unless they have it automated, which I think Swinburne uni here do (has it's own login portal, instead of using onthehub's login system)
Ahh man, I was hoping my corporate MSDN keys would be safe and sound forever! I guess my job is pretty sweet though, I'll just have to request to get it reinstated if the subscription lapses.
