My first taste of VR was when Sega Genesis was still fairly new, and the Malls had them in display cases. They had this one VR headset that you leaned your face into rather than wear, and it itself was a game. It was all red wire framed and a game similar to Starfox 64, which was years away at the time, and it was even in 3D. I think it was called the Virtual Boy or Virtual Kid. At the time it was impressive as fuck, and I don't know why it didn't catch on Now we have god damn Star Trek Holodeck Goggles on the horizon

I haven't even tried an Oculus slow down technology That being said, I won't invest until there's universal support for VR. Even with AAA games in 2013 I still find a major lack of eyefinity / surround support, hopefully if enough units are shipped this year companies will notice.
Competition for new tech is always a good thing, even if you're an Oculus devotee it works out for you because they'll have to be on their toes now. That being said, I don't think Valve's two-screen system will work out for them in the end. VR needs a consistent 60fps and one of OR's big advantages is that it only uses one screen, which naturally cuts down on performance, cost, and most importantly latency. It might put OR ahead by only marginal degrees but it could be a tiebreaker in the end.
