• Should I get a Zune HD?

I recently wanted a portable music / video player. I went to my local Futureshop store but they only sold iPods and I considered buying one because it was what I needed. This is when I remembered that the Zune existed except that nobody in Canada sold them anymore. I did manage to find one store (Tiger Direct) which sold the Zune HD 16GB http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5238970&CatId=15 Now I have a choice of what to buy, what does everyone here think of the Zune? It appears to be better than the iPod in every way (and cheaper as well) what do you guys think? Edit: I got an iPod Touch however in the future if the Zune becomes a big thing (or expands somehow) then I will get it at that time.
It's better for music, but it has pretty much no apps. There's probably around 20 or 30 apps on the marketplace, though they're all free. If you don't really care about having 495634653948723647582345 apps then get a Zune HD, if you want apps get an iPod Touch. Also there's no Zune Marketplace in Canada thanks to the CRTC (afaik), so you have to change the location on your computer in control panel or wherever to United States. Also there's no Zune Pass in Canada, because you need a US address + credit card. Not sure if there's a workaround for that. I've got Zune HD (also in Canada) and I love it. It works great for music, and Audiosurf is fun :P
I like my Zune HD. Unfortunately, it's pretty much dead support-wise by Microsoft. No new apps or anything.
Ive had a zune 120gb for about 2 years its fell been thrown and still works like a charm
I own a zune HD, the interface is pretty nice and you can make playlists on the go with it. App selection is small but games like audio surf and the Ferrari racing one are pretty fun. I read somewhere that they are going to put the sending music feature back on soon. It only has a few downsides is that if you go to a friends house and you want to play music and all their stuff is ipod docks your basically fucked. Other than that go for it if you don't care about apps.
I got a Zune HD. If you take advantage of the Zune Pass its totally worth it.
I'd rather get the iPod Touch. Just because of the huge selection of apps.
Wait for Windows 7 Phone series, as it will be implemented. I guess the apps released for the WP7S will be supported by the Zune HD aswell, but it's really just a wild guess. Or if you don't care baout apps, just buy one now.

I bought one a few months ago and they're pretty cool. I do have some trouble syncing some times but iPods do the same thing. There are few good apps too, like Need for Speed and Hexic. I have had some trouble with the Facebook and Twitter app though. The video quality is good too, it does get a little blocky on some videos. Music is good too, it shows a random picture of the band of the song you're listening to along with a bio and related artists if you go to the artists' page.
I wanted one too, how often do they redo the models?
Actually, the ZM is expanding to Canada. I think I saw it on Engadget a few days ago.
It's expanding to Canada, yes, but not for, you know... music?
* The Zune Pass subscription service will hit the UK, France, Italy and Spain, offering unlimited streaming for £8.99 / €9.99 per month but no ability to keep 10 tracks a month as with the $14.99 US service. * Music purchases will arrive in the UK, France, Italy, Spain, and Germany, and the format will be unencumbered MP3. * Video purchases will come to the UK, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with playback support across the PC, Xbox Live, and Windows Phone 7. * Video rentals will hit the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands, Switzerland, Mexico, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and can be synced to the PC, Xbox Live, and Windows Phone 7. I think I will get an iPod 3G and jailbreak it. It has more support than the Zune at the moment, even if the Zune is a better device.

What is an iPod 3G?
What is an iPod 3G?
Third generation iPod touch. Also, I bought a Zune HD to see how it sounds and it sounded a tiny bit worse than my iPhone. Yeah, no. I returned it. Interface and screen were incredible but you're not gonna be looking at it very long because there isn't a whole lot the Zune HD can do.

I have 350 dollar headphones and 320kbps mp3s. Compression? No. The iPhone had more bass and better clarity whereas the Zune sounded a bit muddy in comparison. Text to speech and fake guns apps? How about Angry Birds, TomTom, PvZ, RDP clients, SoundHound, NOVA, Need for Speed, Grand Theft Auto, The Sims, Simcity, Tap Tap series, Resident Evil 4, Worms, Nike +, Call of Duty, and Rock Band? Or is it a common defense mindless haters like you employ to troll?
should i get a zune hd
No
The zune is late, the audio quality is shit compared to my 30GB Zune and support is nonexistent. My iPod has been my right hand ever since I've had it. It's got a use in almost every situation. Plus the music quality isn't bad.
Why the 3G
3G is about $50 cheaper.
I have nothing against the iPod touch, I just like being different and getting the Zune.
I have nothing against the iPod touch, I just like being different and getting the Zune.
Although I do like the Zune more, you shouldn't get something just because it makes you "different". You should get an iPod/Zune because you like it better then the other
Get a zune if you listen to music and stuff most. Get an iPod if you want an all in one device that has 50 apps for lolcats.
Although I do like the Zune more, you shouldn't get something just because it makes you "different". You should get an iPod/Zune because you like it better then the other
Zune is a good alternative though, I don't use it only because it's not so popular.
Zune Pass. Nuff Said.
Is there any difference in sound quality with the Zune HD and iPod Touch? I, too, am thinking about getting a Zune as well.
Is there any difference in sound quality with the Zune HD and iPod Touch? I, too, am thinking about getting a Zune as well.
Same sound quality generally but the iPod touch has slightly more bass (on Jazz EQ, vs. any other Zune preset.)
Zune HD is better for music and videos, particularly because of its OLED screen which makes everything sexy and vibrant. But as far as versatility goes, the iPod Touch blows it out of the water. So you have to ask yourself, what are you really going to use it for? Music, videos get the Zune, but for apps get the iTouch. The WiFi seems slightly worse on the Zune, but it's pretty unnoticeable. I have a Zune personally.
