Looking at the Wii-U's hardware, I wouldn't call it much of a next gen console.
It's the games that make console important.
But cramming gimmicks onto your console apparently is.

So you would prefer that gaming consoles do not change at all.
The tablet opens up for asynchronous games (hoping thats the right word)
But Nintendo, you just finally catched up with the current generation. You'll still be streets behind afterwards.
I have a feeling once the other new consoles come out, the wii-u is going to lack a lot of third party support, and will maybe have a few good exclusives but it still won't be worth getting over the other consoles. And then after that, the wii will suddenly be filled to the brim with kiddie game shit and exercise games. This happened to the original Wii.
It would have been a better decision to drop the whole gimmicky motion control/touch screen shit and made a console that would have been on par with the upcoming xbox 720 no scope and ps4 consoles. People like that kind of cool gimmicky stuff at first, but then once the charm of it passes I think people will stop thinking of it as a big deal.
The Wii-U's probably going to be like the Sega Saturn; great potential in the right hands and somewhat on-par with its rival consoles, but few people aside from Nintendo themselves would know how to fully utilize it, and then it will probably just flop or not do very well commercially.
It's the games that make console important.
And the hardware.
Its power is roughly on-par with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360,
Why do people keep saying this? They already confirmed that it was a lot higher.
It's the games that make console important.
But then no one makes games that are truly wanted due to being inferior to other consoles.
Then it starts snowballing.
Since the console doesn't has good hardware, devs don't make games for it and choose other consoles like MS and Sony's. The more devs make games for them, the more they end up selling aswell, which brings in more devs and so on.
Its what put Nintendo behind, the lack of "serious" games with multiplayers. FP might not like those, but they sure keep a console going strong instead of just alive and doing okish day by day.
I think the move on from friend codes will help sustain the userbase for the wii-u
I thought the Wii U had hardware way better than the PS3.

When it comes out it will have hardware I used back in 2008. That's based off some other rumors I remember reading.

Assuming it's what I remember reading, it should be much much much faster.
I heard it was using a 4890 level of performance. Which is like 3x faster than the RSX.

The word is asymmetric, asynchronous would mean for example a multiplayer game where the players involved can take turns and don't have to be present at all times.
