• I think Magic the Gathering ruined my audio!

Okay so the weirdest thing happened, it's still happening, and it's stressing me the hell out. First up, my specs: [IMG_thumb]http://puu.sh/iXjHu/5969d21e61.png[/IMG_thumb] So my girlfriend was talking with me about teaching me magic the gathering because she plays it religiously and I don't. I told her I wasn't so sure on playing card games but she told me to check out the classic 1997 PC game to test it out. So she sent me a link to it and because it was abandonware it wasn't hard to download. I'm talking this one right here: [img_thumb]http://i.ytimg.com/vi/8QDZmw2vpjE/maxresdefault.jpg[/img_thumb] Now anyway, to the important bit. So it installs fine, it did it through a little cmd window, I install the registry key that came with it that it needed to run and that all was smooth and great. Now the problem began when I actually opened the thing. So I opened the respective .exe and my screen went black and I heard a loud *POP* sound from my speakers (Internal speakers in my tv im using as a monitor) then after a few seconds of black screen it brings me to the main menu where this god awful high pitched whine from the right speaker starts playing. Like, it's the kind of sound that drives people crazy if listed to for too long. I spent maybe a total of 8 seconds on the menu before I decided to just quit and make it stop. So I quit and the screen goes black for a few more seconds, the sound has stopped, peace returned to my eardrums. But when it went back to my normal desktop, the sound continued again! So I panicked and restart my computer, but that didn't work, the sound continued when the windows logo appeared! I remembered I installed a registry key for it when I installed it, so I went into Regedit and deleted every trace of magic the gathering thinking maybe it installed a registry thing that fucked with my audio, but THAT didn't work! So I tried to mute my speakers using the audio mixer in the taskbar, and it worked... for like half a second. If I click the mute button it stops the sound for a second-1/2 a second, but when it's 'muted' it plays another high pitched whine, just slightly pitched down from the unmuted one. I tried messing with my audio settings, but nothing worked, nothing except muting it affected the sound in any way, even disabling my tv as an audio output did nothing. So I started googling (with the sound still stabbing my ears) about tvs/computers making high pitched noises, the results were to change my audio from 7.1 to 5.1 as well as adjusting my monitor's brightness and refresh rate. I can't actually change my audio from 7.1 to 5.1 because it doesn't give me an option anywhere in my audio settings and adjusting my tv's brightness, color depth, and refresh rate did nothing to help. I did manage to make it stop, but only by turning my tv's volume to 0, anything 1 and above plays the sound at the same volume regardless of the number. So now i'm sitting here with a headache and no audio confused as fuck on what to do, I have no idea if it's the computer or the tv that's the issue here and how this even happened. So here are situations when the sound plays: -Anytime the computer is on and it's visible on screen -When the volume on the tv is more than 0 -A second after I mute the speakers Here are situations when it doesn't: -Whenever the computer is unplugged from the tv -When the computer is turned off -when the tv is turned off -When the computer is changing resolutions -A split second after I hit the mute button on the computer -When the tv is on but the speakers are turned off via the built-in tv menu -Whenever the tv is on a different source than the one hdmi connecting to my computer (I don't have cable so I can't test if it does the same with tv) Has anybody dealt with audio issues like this before? Do you think the game changed some audio setting when it opened and didn't revert back? Did my speakers just blow out? Do you think it's most likely a problem with the tv or the computer? My girlfriend said she has the same copy of the game and she runs it just fine, and nobody else seemed to have this issue according to google, so what the christ happened to me? Also, I would use my front audio port and stick in some headphones... but I only hear static when I plug them in, I don't know why that is either. TL;DR Tried to play the 1997 Magic the gathering game on my pc, when I opened it up, my speakers made a pop noise and the right speaker started blaring a high pitched whine. Whine won't go away, don't know if it's a problem with my computer or my tv speakers. Have no idea what to do now after googling for 2 hours and messing with every audio setting I could think of.
1997? Probably tried to touch some important system file (because that's how programs rolled in those days, manual override) Boot to some other OS (if you don't have one then burn an Ubuntu disc or some shit) and get it to make noise (This is one of my favorite videos for sound test reasons)

And thanks, i'll give it a shot, i'm willing to try anything at this point. And speaking of audio test, I forgot to mention I get no audio while the whine is playing, as in no youtube videos or games or anything's audio will go through.
maybe the popping noise destroyed your speakers
maybe the popping noise destroyed your speakers
If it did, then how?
And OP realized it was his hearing that went out as a result of the pop and not the speakers
maybe the popping noise destroyed your speakers
I was going to assume that too until
Here are situations when it doesn't: -Whenever the tv is on a different source than the one hdmi connecting to my computer (I don't have cable so I can't test if it does the same with tv)
do you have anything else you could plug into your tv? a game console or anything really with audio output?
I was going to assume that too until do you have anything else you could plug into your tv? a game console or anything really with audio output?
I never thought of that! I just gave it a try, I connected a ps3 to it and when it booted up... it made the noise. Welp, I guess the bright side to this is there's nothing wrong with my computer. I called my tv's support and did a run-down of the situation, looks like I'm buying a new tv because my warranty ran out and this is a sign that my picture is going to go next. As luck would have it, my model tv is like a timebomb, they just so happen to deteriorate after 3 or 4 so years. I'm never buying VIZIO ever again that's for sure. But honestly, I would still like to know why the hell the speakers committed suicide when I opened up that game, it couldn't have been a coincidence, could it?

Their colors are also especially awful.
Try reinstalling your sound drivers. [editline]14th July 2015[/editline] As for the game, probably a VM would be a better idea.
