Not fast enough. Doom 1 had you feeling like you're sprinting no matter the direction, and here they're strafing at a semi-fast walking speed. Not fast enough.

the video in the article only shows like 2 seconds of uninterrupted gamepaly at a time which makes me a bit nervous.

I remember the main thing about doom co-op servers I played was strafing while dealing with tens of demons and dodging their projectiles and it was insane and at insane speed. If this is a thing introduced in Zandronum and not in the original doom, then it's my mistake. It's just been way too long since I've been able to run the original doom on my computer. I have to buy an engine port to play it properly.

While you could technically recreate most of the functionality in the original releases, they only became so 'insanely fast' once you ditch the Arrow Keys + < > for strafing method with CTRL for fire and Space for doors. Not to mention modern source ports can run the game smooth as butter compared to old hardware or the console ports.
