Hello, I'm Wondering What A Good Free/Next-toFree Program For Making A Dos-Style FPS Would Be

I recently almost completed a Doom WAD/Indie game with Doom engine that took a completely unique and different course from Doom. I have all of my own textures, sprites and ideas for weapons and enemy behavior. Right not, me and my wife together probably have about 40 dollars until my first paycheck in two weeks, so I would prefer something dirt cheap or free. I would use game maker lite, but it isn't capable without upgrading to pro. I'm looking for something that I can use to copyright, and maybe even sell on steam like the maker of Eversion did. I think the story is interesting and the gameplay, weapons, enemies and environments are fun enough to be able to sell at a low price and is worth protecting. The game is definitely not a generic zombie game or "realistic" military shooter. I know that the job market for game design is very uncertain and I am not sure that I could make it, but I do have a passion for this game that I want to make.
No offense, but making money off games is something best left to the guys who actually know what they're doing. It sounds like you're having issues. I suggest you get a real job instead of a dream job.
Source engine.
It is free, just start a new mod. Well, it is free if you own a source game but you should have one when you are in this forum..
But you probably won't be able to sell your first game.
Edit: wait fuck i should start to think or stop posting late.
You have a doom wad, so use doom's engine? It's open source.

And just 40$!

Those two often go hand in hand.
Look, if your planning on making this your main source of income, DONT. Get an actual job, support your family, and do this on the side.
Also, who wants to buy a mod, really. If you really want to make money off this, don't make mods and sell them. Make mods, then work on a actual coded from scratch game.
