Well I am going to be conducting a build and the fucking power supply units are haunting me again. I will be running 3 nVidia gtx 470's I called into memory express today expressing my concern and they said to definitely get the 1500w silverstone witch I somehow think they are fucking around with me because its a 400$ psu. Ill go for a 1200w psu but is it necesarry to go beyond a 1kw psu, especially with the gtx 470's. Well I am stumped.
I think the 1000W would suffice.
1k is more than enough
The more drives, the more power the power demands. I would say a 1000 would be nice. If you got more than two drives though, 1500 might be batter.
What 'bout a 1200? Also emphasize on drives I'm not completely tech savvy [editline]10:00PM[/editline] Also, I am using an intel core i7 980x. With 12 gb of corsair dominator gt ddr3 ram. As well as an Asus Rampage III
I have 550w on my new system, 1000w is overkill. I'd go with 700-ish to be honest; there really isn't a reason to get something more than that.

1000W is more than enough, you'd probably get by with an 850W. [editline]09:24PM[/editline] http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-470-2-3-way-sli-review/23
wat
Workstation experience. The system must be prepared for anything you throw at it be it a 1000W graphics pipe or a disk array containing a half dozen disks. In other words: Never buy a PSU rated to what you think. get it for what you know wou won't get to....hopefully. Also, if you get the 1500, you can move it to your next system when you decide to upgrade again.
Hard drives don't sap that much power.
What is a 1000W Graphics Pipe? I have a good feeling you have no idea what you're talking about.
Also, I am using an intel core i7 980x. With 12 gb of corsair dominator gt ddr3 ram. As well as an Asus Rampage III
Why? [editline]12:40PM[/editline] I mean, it's so stupid and childish [editline]12:43PM[/editline] And I lol'd hard at Tri-SLI GTX 470
That build is so overkill.
OP doesn't understand that he can just go fine with a single graphic card, a quad-core processor (from Intel 1156 socket or AMD AM3 socket), 4GB of RAM, and an 650-750W PSU. And all this for almost the same price of a single i7 980x processor
I would guess that a large majority of graphic cards would not have sufficient optimization to be anything worthwhile if you're trying to get 3 or more cards to work together simultaneously. It doesn't seem logical and I would say it's a pretty big waste of money/electricity if you're planning to get 3 or more cards. You're fine enough with a single 470 if you're playing newly released high end games at 1920x1080 resolutions. 2 should be the maximum you even need.
As for graphic card, GTX 460 1GB are pretty good, especially when overclocked (Reach the same performance as GTX 470 when overclocked to 800Mhz).
I'd go with 1200 to be safe or the 1000w, but 3 470's is overk-k-k-kill
What if he's not just using this for gaming?
What if he's not just using this for gaming?
I am convinced that OP doesn't know anything about components.
What if he's not just using this for gaming?
Then his setup will either be configured with the wrong components, or overkill.
I've seen single GTX470 pulling 420W power under Furmark, so i'd pick the 1200w or 1500w.
Kilowatt would probably cover it nicely, but you may as well get the 1200w to be sure
ITT: People who don't know how does PSU work
I am convinced that OP doesn't know anything about components.
He is the legendary Axiom. Should I nab this core? Its suspicious. I direct your attention to post 83!
ADT is more illiterate than OP.
Get the 1200w, just in case.
ITT: People who don't know how does PSU work
Please, Enlighten everyone in this thread.
I am convinced that OP doesn't know anything about components.
Yeah well I am convinced that you don't know anything about anything.
