Need a new computer, need an excuse to give to my grandma for the money...

Basically I want to build a new PC and with all the parts I want, its going to cost right around $1,000. I need this before the 3rd week of july and with my job I simply just cannot do that as I wont be paid until the 2nd week of july... So I need about $700 from my grandma as my mom is pitching in right about $300. Now heres the tricky part, trying to borrow money from my grandmother... I need a semi valid excuse as to what I need a $1,000 computer for, I've kinda come up with the idea of telling her I want to get into 3D graphic designing and shit like that, and that it'll cost me $1,400 to build a PC like that and my mom is pitching in half that way she wont think I'm borrowing all the money from her. Also should I ask her to skip christmas this year and my birthday next year or just ask her if I can pay her back everytime I get paid?
TL;DR Need a new computer and I need an excuse to borrow $700 - $800 from my grandma and you're a lazy bastard.
Be honest
Why do you need it by a certain time? can't you just wait till you get paid instead of doing something dumb like this?
I've got a project to start by the 3rd week of july for school, I could get away with spending $500 on a computer but that would be pointless seeing as I'd have to upgrade again in 2 weeks for quakecon. so i figured I'd just build my 1 grand super computer all at once.

And yes this is dumb, Im mainly impatient more than anything and I mean its not like I'm not going to pay my grandmother back I just need a way to convince her to let me actually borrow it.
Is your grandma supportive of graphic design at all? Your best bet is just being honest but it probably won't help if she's technologically ignorant.
Well if its something challenging like graphic design and something that requires a semi powerful computer than yeah probably.
Just wait, seriously. Or tell your grandma the truth and say you'll pay her back.
If you tell the truth, you don't have to try and remember what lie you told and then you do not have to worry about being caught.
Yes you've already pointed it out being a shitty thread, I'll just tell her I need a new computer since mine is on the edge of being worthless, and that I need money and with my job I will pay her back. Thats the truth.
What kind of project do you need a new computer for? What's the specs of your current PC and what is the project? I mean I would think that if you've got a job that you should just wait a little longer and not have to lie.
Wait, are you wanting to build a new PC to take to Quakecon? Just to throw this out there, there is no point trying to have the most badass computer for a LAN party, there is always going to be someone there who's dropped 5k into his rig and can't maintain a normal conversation with a human unless he's talking about watercooling or sleeving cables.
I actually do have to make a 3D model for the first week of school for my graphic design class ( which I fucking hate, Going to be an IT tech instead ) And could I pull it off with my PC...? Maybe, AMD athlon x2 5000+, 2 gigs of DDR2 800 mhz, 200w ITX psu, ITX amd motherboard and a 9800 GT Energy efficient model. I mean it would probably take me forever, and I want to be able to play the latest games too so its going to be a gaming PC mainly and whenever I need it for something else it'll be my workhorse. I'll just call her on sunday ( thats one of her good days off ) and say "Grandma, I need money so I can build a new computer because mine is on the edge of being worthless and my parents are paying for part of it ( they are paying about $300 ) and that I need about $700 - $800 to build it and that it will last me a good 5 - 7 years.
Save your own money or get a job instead of robbing from your grandmother

No not just for quakecon I would just like to have a PC that isn't the size of a toaster that can barely do anything, Like I said yet again though, i'll just be flat out honest with her if that'll work. I've never borrowed money from family before.
Good luck on paying back, I don't think there'll be a problem as long as you do that.

Can't be said enough.

That's more than you need to do 'a 3D model' in a graphics design class, most likely at MOST you'll make a table....not exactly eating up the vram.
Why not just get the money yourself instead of using your gran for it?
Cause im impatient as hell and with my job and payrate it'll take me about a year to get 1 grand, I work at kroger as a bag boy... You don't get paid very much...
a year to get a grand? that's like 8 hours of work a month
be conservative, save your money, get your computer like everyone else instead of loaning from your grandma. you don't know if you'll get laid off or something and won't be able to pay her back

You're right, but again like I said I will pay her back. Plus if all goes well and my lawn mowing busniess kicks off I'll be making $160 a week.

It doesn't matter if you're paying her back, because it's just better overall to save the money. What will you do if you get fired from Kroger and your lawn mowing business doesn't kick off, and you owe your grandma another $700?
Your computer can last until then.
Surely if you say "borrow" you're going to give it back? If not then save it yourself.

Listen to this man. He is pretty much a 3d modeling deity. Instead of digging around looking for justification to buy a new, high-performance machine, try looking for ways to SAVE money and do this with the minimum amount of hassle.
literally the worst thread I read this week
Should we all stop giving him morale advice? He said he would tell the truth and pay her back - we're no position to say that he can't do that. Let him just get the damn money, and make a build.
And OP, you can make a decent computer for ~700$. When we're talking longevity, it's more about upgradeability than day one raw performance.
Help me lie to my grandmother so I can get enough money for a computer I didn't work for
You're a terrible person

Loaners are Losers. Seriously if you are starting to borrow money for something that is not your house or a buisness, this young you are gonna live in debt the rest of your life.
This, IF my lawn buisness kicks off and IF i can make more hours is prone to fail.

Well I just remembered this thread, god I sounded like a massive twatbag doing this.
Well anywho, update time. I got a job and saved up my own money, honestly asked my grandma for $500 to borrow and then paid her back.
