• Are quad cores worth it when it comes to gaming?

Simple question really. For example, would there be much difference between the Phenom 555 and the 955 while playing games? Ive heard that some games dont utilise the cores and would make little difference. Im asking because Im upgrading my computer and would save a shed loads of money if the answers yes. Thanks in advance!
Most modern games are starting to use the extra cores more. But having those extra cores is useful, as the OS can offload background tasks to one or two cores while a game uses the others.
It is a bad idea to purchase a dual core in 2010
Ive just realised the difference in price is ony about £30, so I guess ill go with the quad. Thanks for the input hex
4 cores is the future. Go for it, even though it'll get outdated.
Well I sure as shit aint gonna buy a hexacore, lol
Yeah go back a couple of years ago and we'd all be saying get a dual-core, but in 2009 a few games started using it, and now more games are being released with quad support. It's definitely worth it now.
Future ? Quad-cores were around since 2008
They've only just caught on to the masses now though. They weren't an exact science back then, and they have been perfected so much more now.

If you really don't want to spend a lot money, get an AthlonII quad.
Future ? Quad-cores were around since 2008
Of course it won't be the future, as hexa-cores already are released at a afforable price, but dual-cores is old now, so in a way quad-cores are the future.
I haven't had a solid response and sorry to keep asking but, is it worth switching out my e6700 to a q6600 and a new cooler? Price would be around 100-150.

Q6600 isn't low end at all
As quad core, yes.
I still have a dual core, it's good enough for me.
Q6600 isn't low end at all
read my post, that's exactly the reason I worded it like that
