• Adding more ram, need to know what to look for

Currently I have two 2GB sticks of DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) ram and I need to know if I am able to add a 4gb stick instead of two more 2gb. I ask this because I can't find the 2x2gb pack that I purchased about a year ago on newegg. I'm not sure how to go about purchasing more RAM because I'm not sure if it needs to be the same exact model or if it just needs to have the same specs. If it just needs the same specs then I was looking at this: [url]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220436&Tpk=patriot%20ram[/url] , it's the same brand (Patriot memory, recommended by a facepuncher when I bought my parts a year ago), same specs and what not except my memory was the "G2" series. Which I have no idea what that even means.
As long as the specs are the same (timings, clock rate, etc), you'll be fine. If there are differing speeds, it's all slowed down to the slowest pair of sticks. [editline]24th December 2011[/editline] It doesn't need to be the exact same manufacturer or anything like that. And make sure you buy and install your RAM in pairs to keep the dual-channel. [editline]24th December 2011[/editline] So if I'm reading your post right, a single 4GB stick would be worse than 2x2GB sticks.
Alright, so I'm good to order that then? The specs on my box say the exact same as the ones I posted. Also, would it be more beneficial to order the 2x2gb pack or get a 4gb stick so I have room for more if I feel I need to be adding it?
Yup, the one you listed is fine, as long as you have the slots.
I would order just one stick of 2gb because that's really all I need but in the long run 4 sounds good. the reason I need to add more is seriously because of All Points Bulletin and its resource hogging. It's getting to an unbearable point with stutters, freezes, after shutting down game grogginess, and even crashing after shutting down. It's ridiculous how buggy this game is with using my pc's resources.
Running on an odd number of sticks will force you into single-channel mode which means less performance. Just buy it in pairs. Pairs, dual-channel. Nonpairs, single-channel.
Thanks for that, I'll make sure to keep that in mind next time I'm making a build. Didn't know about dual/single channel. I did some digging on other sites and came across this beauty on Amazon. Could someone explain to me why in the fuck it is so damned expensive? Keep in mind, All Points Bulletin: Reloaded is an unoptimized game. There are lots of people with great computers yet they have horrid FPS. Like mine for example. I run 8GB and a Phenom II six core and yet I get hitches and slowdowns. Here's a tip I learned from buying RAM recently. Don't make the mistake of purchasing the wrong type of RAM. How? I bought RAM that is clocked to 2000mhz but I didn't look whether it worked for Intel or AMD boards. As it is, my AMD board only supports JEDEC speeds. Intel boards have XMP technology to deal with RAM.
Looking up and down the page of that ram. I can't find a single justifiable reason for why it's $270. And here's the icing on the cake; they added shipping too. Dunno if that's true or just enticement, either way it got me to buy it.

RMA, DOA issues plus you have possibility for rebates as well. Customer reviews are also a plus
Yeah I was window shopping I guess. I never buy parts from other than Newegg.
