• Best martial art for a beginner to get into?

Hey guys, Pretty much the title says it all, i want to get into a martial art for basically 2 reasons: 1.The boost of knowing you have the knowledge to defend yourself and 2. I've always wanted to (Great workout too) I tried what i believe was taekwondo when I was around 10-12 if i remember correctly. I'm currently 15 and i work out 3 times a week (1 hour each session) and have been for around a year and a half. (There was a while where it was only once a week tho due to lacrosse practice) I'm in good shape (Not the best of runners, around a 7 minute mile last i ran it in school which was last year, my priority while working out is muscle not being able to run, so that time is most likely much lower now, probably around 9 minutes...). I also play Lacrosse as primarily Defense but i do run some long pole middy, which requires a lot of sprinting, but i can always handle it. Thanks guys. BoB
you should try jiu jitzu, if you can find any places to teach it near you, and if not, you should try a mixed martials arts class, and then pick which on you like the most out of what you'll be learning, or just keep learning a bit of everything
I was actually thinking about the MMA classes, i think there is a place near me that does them. What kind of martial arts is it a combination of? I never watched UFC much, my parents never wanted me to when i was younger, and now i'm just too lazy, but i still find it interesting.
MMA for the win
Kung fu. All or nothing, brah, then you can say quotes that kwai chang caine said :P
Garr i'm googling trying to find locations near me that actually do MMA classes, or any martial arts other than taekwondo... If anyone wants to help i live in a northern suburb of chicago illinois, called glenview (No buttrape please, kthxbai)
Karate so you can become the Karate Kid
Check out Ninjutsu. It's what the oppressed peoples of Japan came up with in secrecy to fight off the Samari. No rules, no techniches you HAVE to follow like Karate or Kung Fu or Taequando. No flying kicks or board breaking. Kicking is just telling the other person that you're attacking, and inviting them to grab your foot and pull you down. Board breaking is just stupid. Most martial arts don't focus on ground fighting; where 95% of fights end up. Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninjutsu

(im probably missing some but those are the main ones)
Check out Ninjutsu. It's what the oppressed peoples of Japan came up with in secrecy to fight off the Samari. It encompasses every aspect of fighting, without all of the useless Hollywood crap.

I tracked him down to a place called Glenview. :v:

none
Krav Maga.
martial arts is bullshit just go find someone in the street and start a fight maybe u get famous
And start throwing haymakers? Definite way of getting your ass whooped. [editline]02:24PM[/editline]
Krav Maga.
This, it's actually made up for killing your opponents, and srsface Israeli folk who practice it are fucking insane, they'll kick your ass without even breaking a sweat.
Being in Kung Fu, if your looking for a practical and effect self defense go for MMA. Stuff like Ju-jitsu or kickboxing. With Kung Fu being physically fit, flexible, and knowing balance is more demanding for the flashy moves. It's truly a more authentic & artistic martial art with an uncountable amount of forms each resembling animals it takes much longer to master. For strict, straight-forward self-defense I would go with MMA etc.
whatever you choose, just make sure its not taekwondo

It's a great, grappling sport from Brazil..that is if you're doing Brazilian JiuJitsu. Check out some videos of it @ http://www.jiujitsushare.com/
