Okay, this post is probably going to be long.
So, I cannot play with friends online on any Steam game. I've read up on what issue's I could be having, but there appears to be so many reasons behind why it may not be working. Any time I try to play online, I will click join game and I will get a message displaying the server details and it will simply tell me in the box below "server is not responding". Below that it says the same thing in smaller text. This happens when attempting to connect to any server with friends on it, whether they made it or not. It happens on every Steam game in one form or another. I have tried messaging Steam Support, but I'm sure you all know far to well how much help they are.
Also, one more weird thing is that my brothers connection works just fine and he can play with friends online, and his comp. is quite literally the exact same as mine. He said he didn't configure anything and it has always worked, which is weird.
I guess I'll post the system specs:

And here is my router properties ( as found by accessing the network, status, then details section) :
Realtek RTL8187SE Wireless LAN PCIE Network Adapter
My house has a router shared by several computers. I don't know what type, but if you need more info simply ask.
Thanks for the support. I hope you guys are more useful then Steam Support was.
I'm assuming you're playing on wireless? If not, disregard the first statement below.
A few suggestions:
If possible, use a direct connection via Cat5. Many people game on wireless, but Ethernet is optimal.
Disable any background applications that regularly use your connection for heavy sending and receiving.
Enable the DMZ setting on your Router. This option is usually found in the Firewall settings. Disable the DMZ if no improvement.
Let me know if you make any progress!

Well, a direct connection is (as far as I know) out of the question. Yes I am using wireless and the DMZ is already enabled, and I always close background programs when playing games (especially memory hogging games).
Once again, if you need any more info I can obtain it for you or anyone else as long as it helps.

Steam doesn't need DMZ to work, you should never enable it, unless you absolutely require it (which is extremely rare.) Using DMZ basically opens your computer up to the world of skids, spammers, hackers, etc.
Instead of doing something dumb like enabling DMZ, try disabling the Windows firewall and see if that allows you to connect to games. Also, what's the IP range you're trying to connect to? If it's something like 192.168.xxx.xxx, that's a LAN game and you won't be able to connect to it regardless.
And argh, stop typing "issue's" issues is plural, not a conjugation.

You are absolutely correct. Steam does not need DMZ to work. I mentioned DMZ for quick trial and error, which is why I included "Disable the DMZ if no improvement". I experienced a few connection problems while playing Bad Company 2 and Team Fortress 2 after purchasing a new router. Enabling DMZ eliminated those problems, confirming that I needed to make some port changes in the router.
Carry on!
Okay, well it's disabled now.
And when you said it was LAN, I facepalmed, cause all my friends servers are LAN and so are mine (we don't use dedicated servers.)
But then why can't I play with friends on a server even when it's not LAN.
I keep experiencing these ISSUES regardless. Still, thanks for the info about LAN games, that solved half of the problem.
