• Headphones not visible on Dell Latitude E6440

So I have this laptop that refuses to acknowledge my nice pair of Sennheiser headphones, but works fine with my cheap crappy earbuds. The only difference as far as I can tell is that the earbuds connector has 3 black rings versus the 2 on the Sennheiser. When the Sennheisers are plugged in, they are simply not seen by the system, not a single reference to them in device manager or anything. This seems to be a common problem with Dell laptops, but so far none of my attempts have solved it. Please help, I hate listening to music with earbuds :tinfoil:
Most of the time it shouldn't really show what device it is though? Also FYI, the reason why it has a extra 'ring' is because that's for microphone
