• Computer Freezing when playing games (Mainly garrysmod)

I'm using: Windows XP SP3 32bit Intel Core 2 Quad Q9950 2.8.ghz 4gb ram (Shows as 3.5gb) Geforce GTS 250 1gb Processor and video card are about a month old, everythings nice and clean on the inside and fit correctly (Temperatures are good when idle, not sure about in game). I have the newest graphics card drivers, Direct X drivers and even physx drivers. When I'm ingame (even when playing Eve windowed) the computer will just freeze, screen, keyboard, mouse, etc all stop responding and the only way to fix it is to reset the computer. It mainly seems to happen in garrysmod so at first I thought it was the CPU over heating but it once did it after about 10 seconds and all I had spawned was some PHX tiles. Edit: Done adaware and avast scans, both had 0 results. Using a fairly new hard drive as well. However I partinioned it badly so there's only 5-10gb free on the drive windows is installed on. Dragon Age has had almost zero problems however.
Same problem i had (also XP), only thing that helped me was windows reinstall.
Could be your memory, run a memtest.
Could be your memory, run a memtest.
How do you do this? Is it a program, if so can I have a link to a safe/decent version?
Here you go http://www.memtest86.com/ Doesnt work if you have more than 4gb of memory though. Another way to determine if its the memory is trying one stick at a time

I downloaded it and it wants to install to a floppy when I run the installer and there's also a bin image which I assume is meant to be burned to a cd. I haven't had a floppy drive in 4-5 years and I don't have CD-R. I only have a memory stick but have no idea how I'd make that work with 2.exe and a bin file.
Get a CD-R.
I'll have to, no idea where I can around here. I looked inside my PC today and discovered I have 2x1gb of Kingston and then 2x1gb of some make I've never seen before. It's got a huge metal casing with a Z on it. Could this be causing the problem as I was always told never to mix 'n' match memory manufactuers, sadly it was my Dad who installed the ram whilst I was away. Edit: Okay, I used my computer till it crashed again, then checked the insides. The CPU heatsink was still cool to the touch, as was the video card. The RAM and motherboard (including the Motherboards heatsink) were scolding hot. This may sound stupid but is it possible to have memory/motherboard overheat o_o

When it freezes, does the sound loop? If it does, it could be an issue with paged pool memory. If it does, try this: http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=9815667&postcount=8
I've been playing with 1gb of that Z memory and haven't crashed yet. I crashed when I had 2gb of Kingston in (after about 2 mins). Could my kingston be broken? As for sound... I'm not entirely sure, I don't think the sound loops...
It was fine nearly all day on just 1GB of ram. Then it crashes about 5 mins in to an AVI file. I can now confirm that the sound does not loop, everything goes silent.
