• First Time $2000 Gaming/Workstation Rig Help

Hey, I'm looking to build a new Gaming/Workstation desktop for when I move over to the states. My current budget is around 2000 dollars give or take a hundred, depending on what you guys recommend. I'll mainly be playing some of the new releases coming up like Wildstar and Wolfenstein, as well as some old classics that I want to see in more detail (Like the Metro series) I'll also be using it as my main workstation, which will consist of 3D Modelling (3ds Max), General Programming (Net Beans),Video Rendering (Sony Vegas), And Photoshop. The resolution will be your average 1920x1080. I am reusing literally nothing from my old pc, As I'm selling to a friend. As for peripherals and extras, I already have all of those picked out. This is purely for the desktop itself, and maybe a monitor, if you guys can suggest any decently priced ones. I currently reside in Australia, but I will be living in Austin TX in around a months time. If there's anything I missed, Let me know because I think I've covered everything Cheers
Doing higher end budgets is fun. Maybe 32gb of ram would benefit you more, idk. Also you can get the noctua fans in the new black or gray colors http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=news_list&news_id=93 PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($319.99 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($89.99 @ NCIX US) Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($149.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($139.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($244.99 @ Micro Center) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($83.97 @ OutletPC) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Superclocked ACX Video Card ($479.99 @ NCIX US) Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case ($108.98 @ Best Buy) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($104.95 @ Amazon) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($102.98 @ Newegg) Monitor: Acer H236HLbid 60Hz 23.0" Monitor ($157.58 @ Newegg) Case Fan: Noctua NF-F12 PWM 55.0 CFM 120mm Fan ($14.99 @ NCIX US) Case Fan: Noctua NF-F12 PWM 55.0 CFM 120mm Fan ($14.99 @ NCIX US) Total: $1998.38 (Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.) (Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-05-16 02:15 EDT-0400) E: When you go to Texas the i7 4790k will be already released so you could get that instead of the 4770k for the same price. They're supposedly able to reach 5ghz with water cooling.
Information
Wow that was surprisingly quick, Thanks! Side question here, How hard would a build like this be to actually put together? Also how much faster do you think the 780 will be compared to my Ati 6850? [editline]16th May 2014[/editline] Also is there another monitor you can recommend? did some research and found out it's glossy. Not a big deal but, The shine on a glossy monitor can really get annoying sometimes
Yeah i can't sleep. The 6850 is basically a very low entry card, and the 780 is very high end. You can't even compare the two. I would say it's very easy to put a computer together, there's not much you can do wrong. I'm not sure about a monitor, check for something with a 1080p IPS panel with a matte screen. I wouldn't recommend asus. And know this is a pretty high end build. You can play any game at max settings at 1080p with it, maybe even 1440p.

Anyways I appreciate the build mate, I think I've got all the information I need
I wish I had your budget for my first build. :quagmire: If your worried about how difficult this will be to put together I recommend taking some of that $2000 and buying a computer structure and logic book as well. This will save you allot of headache as well as helping you understand what that $2000 pile of parts is supposed to do. I recommend Mike Meyers' Certification Passport CompTIA A+: http://www.amazon.com/CompTIA-Certification-Passport-Edition-Certficiation/dp/0071795677/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400224166&sr=8-1&keywords=A%2B+certification+passport Don't be intimidated it's actually a great read. It will not only teach you about how all the parts work and what they do but you'll be able to research and put together your own part list to build your $2000 system. I'm not going to knock Lilyos suggestion on my first post but it's much more personal and much more satisfying when you put the work and research in yourself. After you know what each of the parts do and how the motherboard connects everything together it's pretty simple.

Going to bring this thread back for a second but, How exactly am I going to install Windows 8 on this pc? I just realized it doesn't have a optical drive to boot off. Is that a problem? Or is there another way I can install windows on this pc
you could use USB to install it
you could use USB to install it
Oh right, I'll do some research on how to transfer the DVD installation to the USB, Cheers
There's a tool specifically for windows installations. It's super fast. All you need is a flash drive of above 4gb. (It says a 4gb flaah drive, but due to formatting it needs to be above)
I know if you have another computer you can use the online tool with your key to download the iso and you can put it on a usb. Also if you're a student you can get 8.1 for $70 and you get the iso to download. http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Windows-8.1-Pro-Student
snip spam (User was permabanned for this post ("Bot" - Blazyd))
$2,000 will be fun to play around with; you'll be able to get a lot with that. Check out pcpartpicker for ideas on what you're going to use. I'd also use sites like this SNIP to make sure you're really getting what you need/want for the money. For example, if you're only using it for gaming don't spend too much on memory, because you won't need more than like 8.
3 weeks late there chap :)
3 weeks late there chap :)
I'm pretty sure he's just advertising considering it's his first post, it has some obscure site and it doesn't actually fit the context of the OP or rest of the thread(it wouldn't be the first time that's happened in this section, don't ask me why)
