• Building HTPC under $300

My family recently got a new HDTV, and want to be able to watch internet content and things with it. So they've agreed to let me build an HTPC for them. So far, I've found this great combo on Newegg: [url]http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.720935[/url] along with [url]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820717005[/url] However, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something cheaper I could go for with about the same power. Requirements: HDMI Out with audio A small case would be good, mini-atx or smaller would be ideal, as in the combo. Wireless N (150mbps is fine) Some sort of remote, preferably simple because my parents aren't too good with lots of buttons Able to output smooth 1080p video without slowdown/low FPS. At least 500gb hard drive space. Memory card reader, preferably internal since i don't want things sticking out of the front of the case. At least one, preferably two USB ports in the front of the case. I'm thinking that combo just may be it, but I decided asking the great hivemind of Facepunch for their opinion.
That's good, and probably the best you're going to get for that price.
[IMG]http://puu.sh/4UVi[/IMG] make sure you use EMCKBHE29 for free shipping on the DVD drive [editline]28th August 2011[/editline] [QUOTE=Goz3rr;31999486]That's good, and probably the best you're going to get for that price.[/QUOTE] large combo deals almost always cost more than they should and the discount mostly just knocks off the markup [editline]28th August 2011[/editline] This does cost a little more, but comes with 50% more HDD space, and tiny case - you don't even need the PSU in the case, just take it out. The motherboard has one built in. Get any mini ITX case, if you don't like the one I chose, there are a few more options for around the same price. [editline]28th August 2011[/editline] you probably also have room to bump it up to 4GB RAM, and if you don't really need the 1.5TB HDD space, feel free to remove it and replace it with whatever else. [editline]29th August 2011[/editline] Oh, did you want to spend less, not trying to max the budget? Ok, I'll look some more. [editline]29th August 2011[/editline] I'll get back to this tomorrow: do you want a DVD drive? You don't really say it's a requirement.

I actually had almost the same items that you put up before I found that combo. Also, I do have a spare IDE DVD drive I could use, but I'm not entirely sure of how well it works, if at all. (edit: after looking at the motherboard, it seems it doesn't even have an IDE connector) I would prefer a new one.
