I was wondering what Facepunch thinks a good upgrade to my PC would be? Specs: i3 2130 Radeon HD 7770 6gb 1333mhz RAM I had asked over at Toms hardware and was suggested to get a new GPU. What do you think?
You have a budget?
I agree, you could benefit from a new cpu
You have a budget?
My budget is right around $200. [editline]17th November 2013[/editline]
I agree, you could benefit from a new cpu
I was planning on picking up an i5 3470 before Ivy bridge gets discontinued/sold out so that I won't have to replace my motherboard when it comes time for a new processor. The person over at Toms Hardware was saying that my current CPU wasn't bad and if I paired it with a new more powerful GPU it would be more beneficial. Also full part list of my build at the moment: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Rybo1227/saved/2N0u
Your current CPU isn't bad, but I would get the i5 and save up about $200-$300 more and get an R9 270X or R9 280X. Or, if you are happy with the i3 for right now, just spend the $200 on an R9 270X and you will see a pretty noticeable performance boost. If you got the GPU this is the difference you would see. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/777?vs=857 The 270X is basically a 7870, but performs about ~5 FPS better.
I don't do anything too cpu demanding. I just mainly play games and browse the web, no rendering photoshop etc etc. Also seems the R9 270x seems like a better deal than I had originally thought, it outperforms the GTX 660 and the 7870 and seems to be the same price. So I think I have decided what would probably be best for me at this moment in time. I think I'm going to upgrade to an i5-3470(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115234) then later on down the road, pick up a R9 270x/280x. Seems like the most logical thing to do right now as my 7770 is still serving me well enough in games and the Ivy bridge cpu's will probably be discontinued shortly as Haswell has been out a while now. The new R series from AMD has just launched and I could probably save a few bucks if I wait a month or two.
You might save a few dollars, but like maybe $5 the price will probably not drop for a while on the cards but either way it's still a good buy.
