I installed the Sims 2 today and when trying to install, the game crashes on launching with no error. I've run it in compatibility for XP service pack 2 and still have nothing. I am running on my laptop, an HP 550 with the following specs:
Intel Celeron 550 2.0GHz
2GB RAM
Intel 965 Chipset
Windows Vista Basic
I think I meet the minimum requirements to run the game, though due to the integrated chipset I'm not sure on the graphics card front, but I've heard of people running on the same chipset.
The same issue occurs on my desktop, run in compatibility for XP Service Pack 3 with the following specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
ATi HD5770
4GB RAM
Windows 7 Professional
Basic questins
Are video drivers up to date?
Maybe some updates to the game you need to download? Like a patch?
Some I thought now.
Are you installing from a CD? The CD maybe have a couple of scratches?
I don't remember. Do you need the CD to run sims 2?
All my drivers are up to date. There were updates for the game but I've downloaded them on both computers with no result. I did install from CDs. You need CD1 to run the game after install, I put it in but no dice, it just crashes.
Still problem?
If so, stupid question maybe. Have you tried to run it without compatibility for XP?
I think I ran The sims 2 on my windows 7 once.

My bad.
