• New build won't start but I don't think it is the PSU

I just built a new computer and when I went to turn it on nothing happens. Yes the PSU is on (well the button is anyways, the fan isn't) and the power switches are in the right places on the motherboard. What leads me to believe it isn't a DOA psu is that if you unplug the 24pin whatever it is to the motherboard then plug it back in the fans all start for 3ish seconds then turn off. Any help facepunch? Thanks!
Is the CPU power plugged in?
Is the CPU power plugged in?
Yes, everything I can find to plugin, is.
Try using a screwdriver to connect the two pins for the power button and see if that works, you might not have it in right, or it might be a bad button. It's happened to me once.
That didn't work, I've tried it already. I've also tried hitting the power button on the board itself which did nothing.
can we maybe get a list of parts?
Motherboard standoffs?
Steps to take - Make sure the CPU is seated correctly - Check for lights on the mobo with the PSU plugged in if there are lights you are getting power
No lights on the motherboard go on except when I unplug the plug in the 24 pin aux power and thats only for a few seconds. I'm going to try shorting the powersuply to see if it really is dead and the few seconds the fans turn on is just a fluke.
Motherboard standoffs?
I unplugged everything from the PSU and tested it with a multimeter. It read 4 volts between the ground pin and the green wire. (Pin 15/16) [editline]24th September 2011[/editline] Update: I shorted 15/16 (green and ground) together and the fan on the PSU started.
PSU is fine if you got voltage. its probably a MOBO issue.
I can quote the quote of my quote but did you use motherboard standoffs?
It could easily be your heatsink. Make sure that the heatsink is fully connected to the motherboard, there is the heatsink goo in-between the cpu and heatsink, then make sure the two are touching.
Standoffs! That was my problem the first time I tried to start my rig. [editline]26th September 2011[/editline]
