So I got to use my cousin's macbook and now I understand why people prefer macs over pcs. The os just feels so much smoother and well built.
So I am going to buy one for myself but I don't know which one to get. I will be getting macbook pro, but will I do good with i5 or should I get the i7 instead? Is it worth higher price?
Thanks
unless you're going to be playing intensive games like CIV V or SCII, you won't notice.
I won't be playing games on it at all.
unless you'll be heavy duty film editing, rendering etc, you don't need the i7 model.
unless you'll be heavy duty film editing, rendering etc, you don't need the i7 model.
Then I do need it. Thanks for the info
Do you need it now? Apple last updated the MBP line in April 2010 so if you waited till this April coming you'd likely get some Sandy Bridge goodness which is better again for film editing/rendering.

If you only likes Mac because of OS X, wouldn't it be a lot cheaper if you look into Hackintosh instead?

This. If you just built one yourself, you'd save on the bloated pricetag for nice curves and a shiny surface.

I don't get this. If you build one yourself you would save over ANY prebuilt, not just Apple. People who go "hurr durr build self cheaper :downs:" seem to be comparing Macs to homebuilt machines, not Dells or HP's or the like, like you should compare.

Because we have totally not said "prebuilds are generally more expensive in general" enough times before :downs:
And don't bring HP into your list, their prices are amazing for the hardware you're getting, especially when their machines are being discounted due to whatever event/promotion. Often in these events, their machines are often cheaper than building a near identical computer yourself.

And then you'd be treading the Hackintosh compatibility minefield.
If you can wait until early April, there's practically guaranteed to be a refresh then.
Hackintosh is the obvious thing to do, better than spending an extra $1000-1500 for the same hardware.

Fun fact: The most expensive mac with the best possible stuff totals about $21k USD

I think it was $25k+
Stop trying to make it sound expensive by picking out the Mac Pro, it's because it's a high end workstation model, not a consumer machine. You get something like a 12-core processor with it - not an average computer. It's for intensive multicore renders and compiles.
Oh, and if you think you'd pay $1000-$1500 more for an equally specced Mac, you're retarded, highly biased, or both.

I am a user of many Macs and many PC's, recently mostly PC's.
I have no idea how you have no idea where he got the idea from.
I am a user of OSX, Windows, and Ubuntu. I am the master race.
It is worth the higher price, yes. But do you need an i7 processor?..no
I mean if you can afford it, then get the best of the best. I'm on the iMac i3 and loving every second of it!

Fuck you, I run OS X, Windows, Xubuntu, Mint, TI-89 Titanium OS version 4, Mac OS 8.5, System 7, MSDOS, Apple DOS, and iOS 4. :frogc00l:

my macbook pro has user upgradable ram and hard drive. And if i go the route of unsupported apple things i can swap out my dvd drive for a second hard drive, or put in a better battery if apple upgrades the macbook pros with a better battery in the same shape

And you can get a much better computer with better hardware for the same price, if you decide to go hackintosh.

Op listen to them i just finished my Hackintosh and it works like a charm with the build i have there is no minefield as all the parts are 100% compatible, and if you got a hackintosh you'd have USB 3. If you'd be willing to build a hackintosh id be more than happy to recommend parts for your needs. Hers an information table for you!

Thats an example of one, here is my build, installed Retail Snow leopard on here and all my parts were easily configured with in one hour.

Also MacTrekkie, from my previous thread, my build is just as good if not better than the standard mac pro for half the price. And since when is the i7 950 not have hyperthreading?

People call me dumb for spending money on a MacBook Pro instead of buying a cheap laptop and doing a hackintosh. I don't see it as a reliable way to run OSX when your study and possibly career relies on it, I don't want any incompatibility shit going down. If you have time, money and something else to use, sure go ahead.
