• Build for my mum

My mum's computer is bricked at the moment and she's having all sorts of errors with it. Rather than bringing it in to a shop for the fourth time she's getting rid of it and wants a new computer. Being the nice son that I am, I offer the solution of building it, a much more cost effective way to spend her money. Here's the build. She's not a gamer or anything, she just needs something to get her music and stuff on. She already has a monitor and keyboard/mouse etc. Removed the Newegg link, can someone tell me how to get a wishlist that can be posted as a link/is that possible? I'm not sure if that will work, but I'll list the items anyway. Case: Antec 300 Mid-ATX Steel Black Case Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0GHz (6MB L2, 1366Mhz FSB) Motherboard:ASUS PN5-D ATX Motherboard RAM: GeIL Green Series 2x2GB 240-pin DDR2 RAM Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB @ 7200RPM GFX: Radeon HD 4650 (512MB) Power Supply: Corsair 400CX 400w
then why give her a HD 4650? oh it's only €60 so I guess it could help for Youtube hd vids & stuff like that...
that wishlist doesn't work
then why give her a HD 4650? oh it's only €60 so I guess it could help for Youtube hd vids & stuff like that...
It's cheap and she does watch HD videos on Youtube, and whenever I'm over there I play TF2 or whatever off my external.
Could be done better. Give me 10'ish minutes and I'll come up with something I had in mind.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=13776572 $423 Custom fan for quietness Card reader for functionality Small case because mothers don't want a huge gamer case, but instead a small and quiet one that "just works". XFX 5450 because it's more than enough for YouTube 1080p WD 250GB because even 250GB is enough to store a fuckton of images.

She has a LOT of music and I'd rather not have her complaining when she runs out. EDIT: Nevermind, I can just format the old one she has now and then use them both in the PC. EDIT 2: And with the case, I would have no clue how to put things in that.
It's really simple. Out of the many cases on newegg, I've chosen that one because it's got a brilliant system for putting things inside. Pictures of the inside + review; http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Thermaltake/Lanbox_Lite/3.html Edit: Noticed a problem, that the CPU cooler won't fit in the case. Just swap the CPU and Cooler with this non-oem version of the processor; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103688

She said that if she had space on a desk to put it, she could put it on the desk, but it's already cluttered with mail, pens/pencils, the monitor, etc.

[editline]03:22PM[/editline] How about this case; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811233064 Images; http://www.newegg.com/Product/ImageGallery.aspx?CurImage=11-233-064-TS&ISList=11-233-064-Z01,11-233-064-Z02,11-233-064-Z03,11-233-064-Z04,11-233-064-Z05,11-233-064-Z06,11-233-064-Z07,11-233-064-Z08,11-233-064-Z09&S7ImageFlag=1&Item=N82E16811233064&Depa=0&WaterMark=1&Description=GIGABYTE%20gz-KXA%20Black%20SECC%20ATX%20Mid%20Tower%20Computer%20Case Has a very overall shiny and simple design in the office genre that tells others how your computers gets the job done with ease.
http://pcityourself.com/
'S a bit late now if he's not getting that paticulary case anyways.
http://pcityourself.com/
Hurr, I know how to build a PC. I built mine. EDIT: I was talking about that particular case, looked a bit jumbled to me.
Get a box PC case. Your mum will find it more space efficient
An Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 is not a cost effective CPU for a nongamer. You could get a lower end Wolfdale(E6300 $78), pair it with a motherboard with onboard graphics and SAVE SAVE SAVE! ASUS P5G43T-M Pro- a G45 motherboard $79

Why not go for a simple Atom 330 ION mini ITX system?
Why not go for a simple Atom 330 ION mini ITX system?
Because that'd be silly.
Go with an i3/intel IGP build. the i3 does a good job accelerating IGPs
This or AMD's Athlon II X2 240 Regor.
Yeah, AMD has excellent performance in the budget area. I named the lower end Wolfdale and Asus board only because his first post mentioned Intel and Asus products.
