• Will SLI work between a Gtx 250 (or one in the range) and a GeForce 9600 GT (current)

I wanted to buy a new card, and wanted to know if it will be able to SLI-cooperate with my current 9600GT. I wanted one in the range of the gtx 250, and if they can work together it will be even better.
As far as my understanding of SLI .. They can work together, but the "crappiest" card will pull down the "best" card in performance.
nope
No.
sli only works with the same type of card, IE 9800 can only sli with another 9800
No, the cards must be the same model number. The only exception was the 8800GT and 9800GT because they are basically the same card.
No, but I believe the second card can be used for Physx
No, the cards must be the same series number. The only exception was the 8800GT and 9800GT because they were basically the same card.
and i think 9800GX2 can be used with a 9800 not sure. s'all complecated
So i'll have to buy 2 gtx 250? What card would you suggest for a fair balance between performance and cost?
5770
5870
5870
No. The 5850 is best because you can overclock it to 5870 speeds and save $100 or so.
Please be serious
let's say... 5970 then :smug:
Please be serious
How are they not being serious?
In an SLI configuration, cards can be of mixed manufacturers, card model names, BIOS revisions or clock speeds. However, they must be of the same GPU series (e.g. 8600, 8800) and GPU model name (e.g. GT, GTS, GTX). There are rare exceptions for "mixed SLI" configurations on some cards that only have a matching core codename (e.g. G70, G73, G80, etc), but this is otherwise not possible, and only happens when two matched cards differ only very slightly, an example being a differing amount of video memory, stream processors, or clockspeed. In this case, the slower/lesser card becomes dominant, and the other card matches.

How are they not being serious?
well I don't want an ATI card, i like to keep up with nVidia cards only. I feel they are better for my needs
What are your needs exactly? okay.. seriously... GTX 480 :smug:
well I don't want an ATI card, i like to keep up with nVidia cards only. I feel they are better for my needs
The best price/performance cards right now are ATI cards. How could an nVidia card be better for your needs?
ATI cards have many incompatibilities with the tools i use for my work. I heard my friends lament about them many times. Anyway my preferred cost range for a card would be 100-200 €/$
5770.
No. The 5850 is best because you can overclock it to 5870 speeds and save $100 or so.
The 5850 has 1440 stream processors vs the 5870's 1600. Even at the same clock the 5870 will out perform the 5850.
Ever thought your freinds could be relaying outdated information?
or be Nvidia fanboys?
Hell no
Get ATI, it isnt incompatible, there are modded drivers to make it even work with "nVidia only" shit and dont be so fanboy-ish
you can, but you could only use the 9600GT for PhysX. and it would be shitty. [editline]11:21PM[/editline]
well I don't want an ATI card, i like to keep up with nVidia cards only. Its already aviable for ATI, but we also have Stream here, which is better as the Scientists say.
