• Geforce 8600 gt's extreme heat 100C

So I have two geforce 8600 gt's in Sli and when I play bad company 2 I get max temps of 105C, I'm getting these readings form the evga precision on screen display render. In my desperate attempts to fix the problem I have used electrical tape to fasten a 120mm fan to the back of the two cards to give it some more air, then removed the exp slot covers as well. but I still get 100C, I even removed the overclock of 10% that I had and still no luck. I have a raidmax sagitta 2 case. I have no idea what to do now with out spending a ton of money (ei: new cards or new cooling/case)
make sure you get rid of all the dust [editline]05:09PM[/editline] do you have an exhaust fan also?
I have a window in the case so its very easy to see that there is no dust. also I have 2 120mm going out, and the one I have taped on the cards is pointing out toward the open exp card slots. I have no intake fans.
so you can see the dust inside the card and on the fan also?
Something is horribly wrong with your 8600s My 8800gt never goes above 60C. You could try reapplying thermal paste to the cards heatsinks...
so you can see the dust inside the card and on the fan also?
I recently had the case open and on its side to give it a good look over plus I used some canned air in there too. I do have some best buy brand paste but think that might make it worse. EDIT/update Okay so which is better: AS5, AS matrix, or AC MX-2?
MX2 i think you can get free deivery on amazon (they are okay for shit like cables and thermal paste)
okay mx2 on amazon looks good with a good price and shipping, but my friend has some arctic silver 5 that I can use. Would that be as good or on par?
it would be fine, also have you tuned up your fan speed on your graphics card fans? paste wont really drop it by more then a few degrees...
put some fans blowing directly ON the cards
I have done both of those, I have a 120mm strapped to the two cards and I have evga precision tuning the gpu fans to full.
Take the side off the case, if they stop getting so high, you know its your case's airflow. then you simply invest in some 10 dollar fans for the intakes. if there are no spots to put intake fans, your outta luck and gotta get a new case.
The card is done, get a new one.
This happend to my one aswell just clear out the fans with a hoover and tissue. Also try a different program :P
