http://rainmeter.net/RainCMS/ How much of a drain would Rainmeter be on a system? Noticeable? It seems that it may be quite complex - likelyhood of a non techhead getting to grips with it?
Well my Rainmeter looks like this: It's only using 6.8 meg of memory, not bad. As for ease of use, it's alot better than it was before, you can just use themes so automatically give you banners and sidebars, or you can download "widgets" per say, and arrange them manually.

That looks awesome.
Biotoxsin, can I have that BG?
My Rainmeter setup
Seriously guys, how much of a drain does this have on your cpus?
9 times out of 10, people who use rainmeter's desktops turn out hideous and blotted. It's unneeded software.
Never liked it, makes everything feel like a clusterfuck. Even with customization. I prefer a more minimalistic desktop.
You a fan of protoshredanoid?
Not most of that album, just that song and 2 others. And more on topic, mine bearly uses any CPU at all.

I used Rainmeter for a bit, but now I don't care much because I practically hardly ever see my desktop nowadays. I do however skin Speed Dial to my liking, which is my home page and new tab page in Firefox.
is it really worth the extra processing for this
is it really worth the extra processing for this
Depends what your specs are. If you're runninng a PC from like 1998 of course not, but a current gen PC has more than enough RAM to handle rainmeter even with memory intensive apps running. [editline]02:57AM[/editline]
It seems that it may be quite complex - likelyhood of a non techhead getting to grips with it?
Generally it's just a case of copying some folders into another folder then going into a menu to activate the skin, but occasionally you have to edit a few ini files to tweak the skin to your liking. It's a little hacky, but the tradeoff ifs the ease of customization, for example changing the colour from white to black (I really needed some goddamn colour) You can also change fonts and font sizes relatively easily using the inis, as well as details like feed sources (I actually use those feeds on my desktop all the time, they're quite useful) Anyone with a brain and some initiative can figure it out.
You tell me.
Where the fuck did you get that clock? It looks like the one on HTC/Android phones, which I love the style of.
K. i'm just really strict with processes, its a sort of ocd. right now i have 35 processes with just steam (not counting firefox and task manager) although i have a q6700 and 4gb ram. ill try this out
Am I right in saying you can have it load itself up on startup and if you don't fancy running it while you want to run something big you can just right click it and exit? Hey presto, its completely off?

This thing is awesome to play around with. One question...is it an option to resize each item on the desktop either individually or collectively? Everything seems very small.

very cool
Thanks monk
customization
customization
Depends whether you speak proper English or not.
